Robby Shelton fired a bogey-free 62 to grab the Pinnacle Bank Championship lead, while Doc Redman stayed one shot back in Omaha.

Robby Shelton apparently feels right at home at the Pinnacle Bank Championship.

The 30-year-old ripped through the opening round with a bogey-free 9-under 62, grabbing the outright lead and matching the tournament’s 18-hole scoring record at The Club at Indian Creek.

For a player fighting to climb the 2026 Korn Ferry Tour Points List, Shelton couldn’t have picked a better place to suddenly catch fire.

He’s done plenty of damage here before.

Shelton won the Pinnacle Bank Championship in 2022 and returned last season to finish solo third. Now, after another blistering start, he’s positioned himself for a third top-three finish in only four appearances at the event.

That’s not a bad ownership percentage.

The former Alabama star entered the week No. 55 on the Korn Ferry Tour Points List with only one top-10 finish in 18 starts this season. Thursday’s 62 changed the tone in a hurry.

It also gave Shelton the fourth first-round lead or co-lead of his Korn Ferry Tour career. He’s converted one of the previous three into a victory, winning the 2019 Simmons Bank Open.

Shelton knows what a hot stretch on this circuit can produce.

He’s already earned PGA TOUR membership twice, graduating through multi-win Korn Ferry Tour seasons in both 2019 and 2022. He also reached the FedExCup Playoffs as a PGA TOUR rookie, finishing No. 66 in the 2019-20 standings.

He’ll have plenty of traffic behind him this weekend.

Doc Redman opened with an 8-under round and sits one shot back. He entered the tournament No. 3 in the Korn Ferry Tour standings and already owns two victories this season.

One more win would trigger the Three-Victory Promotion and send him immediately back to the PGA TOUR.

Nick Gabrelcik is another shot behind after a 7-under 64, his second-lowest round of 2026.

The younger crowd also showed up.

Christiaan Maas, the No. 2 finisher in the 2026 PGA TOUR University rankings, opened with a 65 and shares fourth with John Marshall Butler and Mahanth Chirravuri.

Chirravuri, who finished eighth in PGA TOUR University, posted the best opening-round position of his young Korn Ferry Tour career.

But Shelton owns the target.

Once an Alabama standout who broke Justin Thomas’ school record with seven collegiate victories, Shelton has spent years bouncing between the PGA TOUR and Korn Ferry Tour.

Another win in Omaha could be exactly what sends his career swinging upward again.
