Rory McIlroy is headed back to the FedEx St. Jude Championship, adding another superstar to a loaded FedExCup Playoffs field at TPC Southwind.

Rory McIlroy is officially headed to Memphis.

McIlroy has committed to the FedEx St. Jude Championship at TPC Southwind, giving the opening event of the FedExCup Playoffs another marquee attraction as the PGA TOUR postseason gets underway.

The six-time major champion hasn't competed since The Open Championship and skipped the Memphis playoff stop a year ago.

His return immediately adds more intrigue to a field expected to include World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler, defending FedExCup champion Tommy Fleetwood and reigning FedEx St. Jude winner Justin Rose.

McIlroy arrives at an interesting point in his season.

He captured his second consecutive Masters title in April, giving him six career major championships, but he hasn't won again since leaving Augusta National.

McIlroy tied for seventh at both the PGA Championship and Genesis Scottish Open, while finishing T32 at the U.S. Open and T40 at The Open.

Those results have left McIlroy outside the top 10 in the FedExCup standings entering the playoffs, something that hasn't happened to him at this stage since 2021.

Still, counting him out would be a mistake.

McIlroy owns a PGA TOUR-record three FedExCup championships and will have an opportunity to chase No. 4 under a postseason format that puts an even greater premium on simply advancing to East Lake.

Once the TOUR Championship begins, the points race disappears and the FedExCup will be decided by the lowest 72-hole score.

First, McIlroy has business to handle in Memphis.

TPC Southwind has been a productive venue for him even though he hasn't managed to win there. McIlroy owns three top-five finishes in eight appearances on the course.

The FedEx St. Jude Championship also remains the only current FedExCup Playoffs event missing from his résumé.

His most recent trip wasn't memorable. McIlroy finished 68th at TPC Southwind in 2024.

This time, he'll arrive rested and with significantly more at stake.

The 2026 season has already given McIlroy another green jacket and another major championship. Now comes the chance to add another chapter to his postseason legacy and potentially put a record fourth FedExCup trophy within reach.
