Scottie Scheffler and Hideki Matsuyama lead a loaded 2026 Hero World Challenge field, with Tiger Woods hosting 20 elite golfers in the Bahamas this December.
Tiger Woods won't have to worry about attracting star power to the 2026 Hero World Challenge. Scottie Scheffler, Hideki Matsuyama and seven of the world's top 10 players headline the initial field announced Monday for the December 3-6 tournament at Albany Golf Club in the Bahamas.
And there's considerably more at stake than another offseason trophy.
Scheffler and Matsuyama arrive with an opportunity to make history. Both are two-time winners at Albany, and either could become the first player to capture three titles since the tournament moved to the Bahamas in 2015.
Scheffler, the world's top-ranked golfer, dominated the event in consecutive years in 2023 and 2024. Matsuyama interrupted that streak last December, winning a dramatic playoff against Alex Noren to claim his second Albany championship after previously winning in 2016.
Now both have their sights set on an unprecedented third victory at the venue.
The competition won't make that easy.
World No. 3 Cameron Young, fourth-ranked Matt Fitzpatrick, Russell Henley, Chris Gotterup, Sam Burns and Xander Schauffele join Scheffler among the seven top-10 players committed.
Justin Thomas, J.J. Spaun, Robert MacIntyre, Tom Kim, Sepp Straka and Akshay Bhatia add considerable depth to the invitation-only competition.
The 17 confirmed participants have combined for 106 PGA Tour victories, while six players account for 11 major championships.
One particularly intriguing name is Jacob Bridgeman.
The 26-year-old enjoyed a breakout 2026 campaign, winning The Genesis Invitational in February before adding the Biltmore Championship Asheville in September.
Bridgeman also delivered the decisive point for the United States at the Presidents Cup, establishing himself as one of professional golf's emerging stars.
He'll make his Hero World Challenge debut alongside Si Woo Kim and Ryan Gerard.
The tournament also features 11 players from the 2026 Presidents Cup, including eight members of the victorious American squad.
Three tournament exemptions remain available, meaning the final roster could become even more interesting.
Woods, who hosts the event, wasn't among Monday's initial commitments. His potential participation hasn't been announced.
Golfers representing six countries will compete in the four-round tournament, which features a $5 million purse.
Golf Channel will televise all four rounds, with NBC providing additional coverage Saturday and Sunday.
For Scheffler and Matsuyama, the opportunity is straightforward: One more victory would put either player alone in Albany's record book.
And with so many established stars chasing the same trophy, neither should expect an easy December getaway.
