Sebastian Söderberg leads the weather-delayed KLM Open at 8 under, with Daniel Hillier and Yuto Katsuragawa chasing after a brutal Friday.
Sebastian Söderberg turned a messy KLM Open Friday into a statement round, grabbing the lead at The International before darkness finally stopped the chaos in Amsterdam.
The weather-delayed DP World Tour event still has unfinished business, but Söderberg sits at 8-under and owns a one-shot edge heading into Saturday.
The catch? He still has four holes left in his second round, and early conditions in the Netherlands haven’t exactly been friendly.
Söderberg started the second round two shots back, then made his move late.
Beginning on the 10th hole, the Swede stuffed his tee shot close at No. 13, birdied the par-5 15th and added another at the 18th.
A bogey at the second briefly knocked him back, but he answered with a 28-foot eagle on the next hole to jump into the lead.
That’s a serious response from a player who needed one. Söderberg finished outside the top 100 on the Race to Dubai in 2025 and came into the KLM Open having made just two of his previous eight cuts.
Still, his resume includes one DP World Tour win and seven runner-up finishes, and he looked very much like that version on Friday.
Daniel Hillier and Yuto Katsuragawa are already in the clubhouse at 7 under, tied with Joe Dean and Callum Tarren, who also have holes remaining.
Hillier played a ton of golf Friday and walked away pleased.
“There was a lot of golf played today so I am a bit tired but played pretty steady all day,” Hillier said. “Today was a little bit easier than yesterday for sure, still not easy, but just good to play a shot on its merit, and I did that pretty well so proud of that.
“The swing felt nice and I holed a few putts. Just one of those days were I felt in sync with everything which was nice. A couple putts went in early, and it gave me some momentum for the day.”
Katsuragawa leaned on his flatstick to stay in the hunt.
“I am happy today, the long game not so much but I am putting very good,” he said.
Jordan Gumberg, Maximilian Steinlechner and first-round leader Julien Guerrier are at 6 under, while major winners Francesco Molinari and Danny Willett remain within striking distance.
