When he joins seven other Los Angeles Angels prospects on the Arizona Fall League's Mesa Solar Sox, shortstop Arjun Nimmala will don his fourth full-time uniform in a whirlwind 2026 that has seen him climb up the prospect rankings.

You'll need to excuse Arjun Nimmala if he keeps checking Google Maps to see exactly where his feet are located. That's because the Los Angeles Angels shortstop prospect, currently ranked as the 35th-best player in the minor leagues per MLB Pipeline, has had quite the whirlwind 2026 season - and it isn't quite over yet.

Nimmala, the 20th overall pick in the 2023 MLB Draft by the Toronto Blue Jays out of a Florida high school, began the season as Toronto's No. 2 prospect and No. 43 overall while playing for the High-A Vancouver Canadians in the Northwest League. After hitting .241 with an .845 OPS, four home runs and 20 RBIs in 27 games while familiarizing himself with such Northwest League outposts as Eugene, OR; Hillsboro, OR; and Pasco, WA, Nimmala was promoted to the Double-A New Hampshire Fisher Cats, headquartered in Manchester, NH, on May 5.

Now operating in Northeastern cities such as Hartford, CT; Portland, ME; Somerset, NJ; and Binghamton, NY, in 33 games, Nimmala rolled up a .279 average and .806 OPS with another four home runs and 11 RBIs.

Then Nimmala's world really got turned on its head.

The upheaval occurred when he was dealt at the MLB trade deadline on Aug. 3 to the Angels as the main return in Toronto's trade for Los Angeles starter Jose Soriano. The deal forced Nimmala, who instantly became the Angels' No. 1 prospect, to head south to the Rocket City Trash Pandas, the Angels' Double-A affiliate located in Huntsville, AL, a suburb of Madison.

While now enjoying the southern hospitality of Birmingham and Montgomery, AL; Biloxi, MS; and Chattanooga and Knoxville, TN, Nimmala found the time to help the Trash Pandas win the Southern League championship, 2-1 over Biloxi. Nimmala was integral in Rocket City's run to glory as he sparked a game-winning rally with a ninth-inning double in Game One of the championship series and added an insurance HR in the seventh inning of the 3-1 Game 3 clincher. In all, Nimmala finished the season on a tear with 10 homers in his final 15 games.

At that point, you'd think he'd be able to put his feet up and enjoy some well-earned R&R.

Nope, he immediately headed west to Mesa, AZ, a suburb of Phoenix, where he would join seven other Angels' farmhands as members of the Mesa Solar Sox in the Arizona Fall League (AFL). The AFL - which features such high-profile alums as Derek Jeter, Albert Pujols, Bryce Harper and the Angels' own Mike Trout - begins its season on Saturday, Oct. 3, and will conclude in mid-November. The league was formed in 1992 as a U.S.-based opportunity for MLB organizations to get a longer look at some of their prospects.

For his part, the 20-year-old Nimmala, who will turn 21 on Oct. 16, will be one of 15 of MLB's Top 100 prospects to play in the league this fall, and MLB.com's Jonathan Mayo can't wait to see Nimmala ply his trade in person.

"I'm excited to see Arjun Nimmala play," he wrote on Sept. 17. "He missed a little time [this season], so he is making up for lost time, but he has been swinging the bat very well down the stretch. He’s tapping into the raw power we all knew he had....He’s one of the hottest hitters in the Minors right now going to the Fall League."

Joining Nimmala on the Mesa roster, which also features prospects from the A's, Toronto Blue Jays (some of whom Nimmala will get to play with again), Chicago Cubs and Boston Red Sox, will be Rocket City third baseman Jake Munroe. Munroe was recently named the Angels' "Minor League Player of the Year" by Baseball America after hitting 19 homers with a .900 OPS while splitting the season between the Trash Pandas and the High-A Tri-City Dust Devils in the Northwest League.

Rounding out the Angels' prospects on the Mesa roster (with their 2026 full-season assignments) are right-handed pitcher Peyton Olejnik (Tri-City), right-handed pitcher Sam Tookoian (Tri-City), right-handed pitcher Yeferson Vargas (Tri-City), right-handed pitcher Najer Victor (Rocket City), first baseman Ryland Zaborowski (Tri-City) and right-handed pitcher Kyle Robinson, who the Angels acquired from the Pittsburgh Pirates for former Angels' closer Kirby Yates at the trade deadline before he made six starts down the stretch for Rocket City.
