Athletics fans have watched their team unable to close out the Toronto Blue Jays in two straight games. It's a tough way for a team to start a new season, but that's the reality right now.

The Blue Jays won 8-7 in 11 innings at Rogers Centre on Saturday.

In the bottom of the 11th inning, Ernie Clement singled to left off of Athletics reliever Luis Medina. Nathan Lukes came home and the Rogers Centre crowd exploded in glee.

The Athletics were up 6-5 in the bottom of the ninth inning, with one out, Alejandro Kirk homered to left field. That made it 6-6.

In the top of the 10th inning, Tyler Soderstrom grounded into a double play. Nick Kurtz, though, reached third base. Brent Rooker followed with an RBI single, putting the Athletics up 7-6. 

Then, in the Blue Jays' half of the 10th inning, Addison Barger hit a sacrifice fly to tie things up at 7-7. All that set up the 11th-inning activities.

George Springer's double in the third inning gave Toronto an early 1-0 lead.

Soderstrom's double in the top of the sixth inning tied the game at 1-1.

Then, Toronto's Dalton Varsho's RBI single gave the Blue Jays a 2-1 lead. The Athletics' Denzel Clarke got a hit off of Toronto pitcher Brandon Little, bringing home Jeff McNeil to tie the game at 2-2.

The Athletics' Shea Langeliers smoked a grand-slam home run, giving the Athletics a 6-2 lead.

After that, though, the game went back and forth until Toronto reigned supreme.

The Athletics and Blue Jays wrap up their three-game series on Sunday.
