This is not a surprising development, but it's one that complicates things for the Toronto Blue Jays moving forward.

In a not-so-surprising development, longtime Toronto Blue Jays shortstop Bo Bichette is drawing interest on the free agent market from teams who want him to switch positions.

This came from Jon Morosi of MLB Network, who is at the general manager's meetings in Las Vegas.

Can confirm Bo Bichette has received interest from multiple teams who view him as a second baseman or third baseman, due to the presence of an established shortstop on those rosters.

Further evidence that the World Series augmented his value in the marketplace.

    Why is this the case?

First and foremost, Bichette is a poorly-rated shortstop. So, if a team can get Bichette's offense without having to have the subpar defense at a premium position, that is certainly desirable, especially if a team already has an established shortstop in the fold.

As an example: If the Red Sox lose Alex Bregman, they will be in the market for a third baseman. Could Bichette fit the bill since Trevor Story is entrenched at shortstop?

The Tigers had been linked to Bregman last offseason and could still use a third baseman, could Bichette be a fit there? If they lose Gleyber Torres, could Bichette be a fit at second base?

How the World Series factors in

Bichette had never played second base in his major league career, but he did it admirably in the Fall Classic, on one leg no less. Teams will certainly salivate over the idea of how he could look when healthy, and with a full offseason and spring of preparation behind him.

Furthermore, Bichette showed a team-first mindset which will ultimately endear him to opposing front offices as well.

How does this impact the Jays?

Well, it opens up the potential market of competition for Bichette, that's for sure. But at the end of the day, the Blue Jays have something no other team has: Comfort, familiarity and relationships.

They'll certainly use those things to their advantage in negotiations, not to mention that they are as close to winning the World Series as any team in baseball. The Blue Jays really are the full package, and they'll be able to utilize that as they talk with Bichette's representation.

    Moving forward

The general manager's meetings are going on this week, and the winter meetings will take place from Dec. 7-10 in Orlando, Fl. At that time, we should start to have real information on the Bichette front.
