Paul Molitor was back in Milwaukee on Saturday night.
The Milwaukee Brewers defeated the Tampa Bay Rays 5-4 on Saturday night in Game 2 of the World Series, taking a 2-0 lead in the best-of-seven series.
The Brewers are two wins away from the first World Series title in franchise history, and the Rays are two losses away from seeing their season end.
Tampa Bay has never won a title before.
While the game itself was great, the pregame festivities were great as well, with former Brewers star Paul Molitor throwing out the first pitch. Molitor, of course, was also a member of the Toronto Blue Jays World Series winning team in 1993.
About his time with the Blue Jays
Molitor, one of the best right-handed hitters of his generation, arrived in the offseason before the 1993 season. He led the American League in plate appearances (725) that season, hitting .332 with a major league-best 211 hits. He also had 22 homers and 111 RBIs while also stealing 22 bases.
He hit .447 in the 1993 playoffs with three homers and 13 RBIs. And while Joe Carter hit the biggest blast of the World Series, Molitor was named the MVP of the World Series. He had a 1.378 OPS in 12 playoff games.
He stayed with the Blue Jays in 1994 and 1995 as well, hitting .341 in the strike-shortened '94 season and hitting .270 in '95. He had 15 homers that season. He ended his career with the Minnesota Twins for three seasons, recording a .341 average and driving in 113 in 1996. However, his power was mostly gone by the time his career ended.
About Molitor's career outside of Toronto
Molitor played 21 years in his Hall of Fame career, including 15 with the Brewers. He also had those three with the Twins at the end of his career. He was a .306 career hitter with 234 homers and 504 stolen bases.
He was a seven-time All-Star and a four-time Silver Slugger, and he went onto manage the Twins for four seasons as well. He was named Manager of the Year in the 2017 campaign.
Elsewhere for the Jays
Speaking of World Series.... Saturday (Oct. 24) was the anniversary of the Blue Jays winning their first World Series title in 1992. The Jays, who went 96-66 that season, defeated the Atlanta Braves in six games.
Toronto won back-to-back titles in 1992 and 1993. Those are the only two titles in franchise history.
