Ricky Tiedemann is in the throws of another frustrating season.
At the major league level, the Toronto Blue Jays enter play on Thursday at 41-46 and in third place in the American League East. Though they've won two of their last three games, they have still lost seven of 10 and are on the outside looking in of the American League playoff picture.
At the minor league level, there have been some real successes this season, including Sean Keyes, who hit his first major league homer on Wednesday. Furthermore, two Jays prospects were selected for the Futures Game on Wednesday.
But there have been frustrations there as well, including continued ones for top pitching prospect Ricky Tiedemann.
Once the top prospect in the organization, Tiedemann has thrown just two innings for the Florida Complex League Jays. He's been injured much of the last four years.
He made 15 starts in 2023, getting as high as Triple-A and he appeared to be on the verge of a call-up, but he made only eight appearances in 2024 and then was sidelined for the rest of the season and all of 2025 because of Tommy John surgery.
He dealt with arm soreness in spring training and then returned for these two appearances, but he's been dealing with a sore neck. He was scratched from his last rehab start and is now getting injections in his neck.
Once of the top pitching prospects in the game, he's still just 23 years old. He's still ranked as the No. 4 prospect in the organization by MLB Pipeline, but he hasn't pitched more than 45 innings in a season since 2022.
Given how young he is, Tiedemann's talent is still tantalizing. After all, strikeout stuff like his doesn't grow on trees. He fanned 82 batters in 2023 in just 44.0 innings. He struck out 117 in 78.2 innings in 2022.

The Blue Jays are off on Thursday and then will kick off a three-game series in Seattle with the Mariners. First pitch on Friday night is 9:40 p.m. ET. The Jays will go with right-hander Dylan Cease in the series opener. He's 4-4 with a 3.02 ERA. He's struck out a whopping 128 batters already which leads the American League.
Seattle hasn't announced its rotation yet, but will likely do so on Thursday afternoon. They are finishing up a series with the Los Angeles Angels on Thursday as well.
Seattle is 44-43 on the year.
