Austin Voth has made one appearance for Toronto this season, and now there could be more.

The Toronto Blue Jays made multiple roster moves on Monday's off day: First, they traded for versatile infielder Lenyn Sosa, acquiring him in a deal with the Chicago White Sox. Then, they moved starting pitcher Shane Bieber to the 60-day injured list, and then they brought back veteran Austin Voth on a minor league deal.

The 33-year-old Voth has already made one appearance with the Blue Jays, giving up one earned run in 2.2 innings. Because of the roster churn required to overcome all the Jays' injuries, Voth was designated for assignment, and now re-signs.

There's a good chance he'll be in the big leagues again soon, but until then, he provides the organization with solid veteran depth.

About Voth

An eight-year veteran of the Washington Nationals, Baltimore Orioles, Seattle Mariners and Blue Jays, Voth has gone 17-19 in his career with a 4.69 ERA. Someone who has started and relieved, he made 11 starts for Washington in the pandemic-shortened 2020 season, and made 17 more for Baltimore in 2022.

He was a solid reliever for Seattle in 2024, going 2-5 with a 3.69 ERA in 68 games. Surprisingly, he did not get a contract after that season and ended up playing the 2025 season in Japan with Chiba Lotte. He went 3-9, but pitched to a solid 3.96 ERA.

About the Blue Jays

At 6-9 entering play on Tuesday, the Blue Jays are in fourth place in the American League East. They've gone 2-8 in their last 10 as the injuries and frustrations have mounted.

Trey Yesavage, Jose Berrios, Bieber and Yimi Garcia have yet to pitch this season, while Cody Ponce was injured and lost for (likely) the entire season.

On the offensive side, Alejandro Kirk and George Springer have both gotten hurt since the season started, and Anthony Santander is out for most or all of the season with a labrum issue.

Up next

Unfortunately, things don't get any easier for the Blue Jays on Tuesday, as they'll open up a three-game series with the Milwaukee Brewers, who are out to an 8-7 start.

Veteran rotation leader Kevin Gausman takes the mound for Toronto at 0-1 with a 2.08 ERA. He'll be opposed by Jacob Misiorowski, one of the top young arms in baseball. He's 1-1 with a 3.31 ERA, and he has a whopping 28 strikeouts already this season.

Blue Jays fans can expect an array of fastballs that travel above 100 mph.

First pitch is 7:40 p.m. ET.
