Heading into 2026, the Toronto Blue Jays do not have a particularly well-regarded farm system. The Jays ended 2025 with three Top-100 prospects, per MLB Pipeline, but outside of Trey Yesavage, the top prospects in the system are extremely young and years away from the major leagues.
It's for that reason, in part, that the Jays have had to spend their way out of roster problems over the last few seasons. Spending nearly $350 million guaranteed on Dylan Cease, Tyler Rogers, Cody Ponce and Kazuma Okamoto this winter is exciting and fun, and it may lead to a World Series title, but it's also necessary because the Jays lack the internal answers from the farm system.
Well, the farm system did get a nice acknowledgement on Tuesday from MLB Pipeline, as youngster Juan Sanchez was named as the No. 7 third base prospect entering the 2026 campaign.
Like much of Toronto's top prospects, Sanchez is also extremely young. Just 18 years old, he was signed at the international signing period in 2025 and isn't projected to make his major league debut until 2029. He signed for nearly $1 million, joining infielder Cristopher Polanco as the headliners of Toronto's class.
He played 56 games for the Dominican Summer League Blue Jays in 2025, hitting .341 with a stellar .439 on-base percentage. He hit 16 doubles, four triples, eight home runs and had 40 RBIs. He also stole four bases and already stands at 6'3."
The Top-30 for each team from MLB Pipeline isn't out yet for 2026, but at the end of 2025, 19-year-old JoJo Parker was ranked as the team's No. 2 prospect, while 20-year-old Arjun Nimmala was No. 3. Johnny King, also 19, was ranked at No. 5.
--According to a recent report, the Blue Jays checked in on Cleveland Guardians All-Star Steven Kwan at the trade deadline in 2025, but nothing became of it.
--Monday was 'truck day,' which is a great sign for baseball fans, as the Blue Jays equipment began it's route to Dunedin, Fla. for spring training.
--The Blue Jays currently have three players set to participate in the 2026 World Baseball Classic. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. will play for the Dominican Republic with Alejandro Kirk playing for Mexico and Ernie Clement playing for Team USA. The tournament begins on March 4. That means those players will be gone from camp for at least a week, and maybe more.
