John Schneider was denied his first career American League Manager of the Year honor

The Toronto Blue Jays haven't had a skipper win an American League Manager of the Year award since Bobby Cox, the third skipper in the franchise's history won in 1985.

The four decade-long franchise drought for that award will continue for at least one more year.

Current Blue Jays skipper John Schneider was one of the three finalists for the AL Manager of the Year award after leading the club to its best season in three decades.

Under Schneider, Toronto posted a 94-68 record, an American League East title and the No. 1 seed in the American League in the playoffs. The Blue Jays won their first AL pennant since 1993 and made it to Game 7 of the World Series before falling to the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Schneider was one of the three final skippers up for the award alongside Seattle Mariners manager Dan Wilson and and Cleveland Guardians skipper Stephen Vogt.

Vogt, who helped lead Cleveland to its second-straight American League Central title, won the AL Manager of the Year award for the second season in a row.

Vogt won with 113 points. He earned 17 first-place votes, eight second-place votes and four third-place votes.

Schneider finished second and Wilson finished third on the ballot.

Schneider earned 91 votes. He earned 10 first-place votes, 11 second-place votes and eight third-place votes.

Schneider and Toronto's No. 1-seed finish came a year after the club ended the year last in the AL East.

This past year was Schneider's fourth (third full season) at the helm of the Blue Jays. He took over as interim manager in 2022 and was promoted to full-time status at the end of the regular season.

During that time, Schneider has posted a 303-257 record. Toronto has made the playoffs three of those four seasons. The Blue Jays were eliminated in the wild card-round in 2022-23 before getting over the hump this year.

Toronto has had eight All-Star connections in Schneider's three full seasons as manager.

The Blue Jays picked up Schneider's option to return for 2026, and are in active negotiations for a contract extension according to several reports.
