Jake Cook was just named to the Arizona Fall League All-Star Game, so let's take a bit of a deeper look at his speed.
Toronto Blue Jays prospect Jake Cook was named to the Arizona Fall League All-Star Game on Wednesday, one of three Jays' prospects to earn that distinction.
The biggest thing that Cook brings to the table? His speed, which is next level. As noted by the Dunedin Blue Jays on social media, Cook's 3.53 home to first time was the fastest in the minor leagues, and it would have been the third-fastest in the majors behind only Tampa Bay Rays' speedster Chandler Simpson and David Hamilton of the Milwaukee Brewers.
About Jake Cook's journey
Drafted in the third round of the 2025 MLB Draft out of Southern Mississippi, Cook was formerly a two-player in Hattiesburg. However, he struggled to throw strikes and ended up just hitting in 2025. He hit .350 for the Golden Eagles and also displayed his elite speed and defensive ability.
He didn't play professionally after the draft and began his minor league journey this season, playing 77 games between Rookie Ball and Single-A Dunedin.
He hit .247 with a .366 on-base percentage, also hitting four triples, five home runs and 42 RBIs. He stole 22 bases in just those 77 games.
He's predicted to make the major leagues in 2028 by MLB Pipeline. He is ranked as the team's No. 20 prospect by the same outlet.

It's always a bit of a futile exercise to try to project rosters a few years out, especially if the financial landscape of the sport changes during the CBA negotiations.
Right now, the Blue Jays are anchored by left-handed hitting outfielders like Addison Barger, Brett Bateman and Nathan Lukes, and Cook is also left-handed.
The Jays also have Anthony Santander in the mix and they could sign Randy Arozarena or Seiya Suzuki, which complicates the outfield situation even further.
However, it's fair to note that speed always has a home, so Cook is not someone the organization should try to box out.
Bateman also runs exceptionally well and the duo could perform a nice balance with the power hitters of the lineup.
About the rest of the Jays November
Free agency is officially open, so the Blue Jays are at work trying to figure out deals. They have about 3.5 weeks to get things done before the start of the MLB lockout, which will come on Dec. 1 at 11:59 p.m. ET.
