The New York Yankees are bringing back manager Aaron Boone for 2027.

According to multiple reports, the New York Yankees are bringing back manager Aaron Boone for the 2027 season.

This impacts the Toronto Blue Jays because the Yankees are the Blue Jays division rivals in the American League East. Everything the Yankees do impacts the Jays. The same is true for the Boston Red Sox, Baltimore Orioles and Tampa Bay Rays.

Boone, now 53, has already spent nine years in New York, going 790-565 (.583). He's been to the playoffs in eight of his nine years and he took the Yankees to the World Series in 2024, where they lost to the Los Angeles Dodgers.

The Yankees went 93-68 this season, beating the Red Sox in the wild card round before losing to the Rays in the American League Division Series. The Rays just advanced to the World Series.

Of course, the Blue Jays knocked the Yankees out of the ALDS in 2025 on their way to the World Series.

There are plenty of Yankees fans who are upset by this decision and believe that Boone is part of the problem in New York, but the bottom line is this: Boone has consistently built successful regular season teams and that is an impediment to what the Blue Jays want to accomplish within the division. The Jays have only won the division once (2025) during his time in New York.

--While it's never fun to congratulate a division rival on reaching the World Series, it should be noted that Rays manager Kevin Cash is a former member of the Blue Jays, having played for Toronto from 2002-04. Those were the first three years of his playing career.

--The start of the new league year is coming and with that, there will be roster decisions to make. The Blue Jays have many players coming off the 60-day injured list that need to be reinstated to the 40-man roster. We took a lot at the situation a little more in the link above.

The 40-man roster needs to be set within five days of the World Series ending.

--Of course, everything we think about this offseason is through the prism of the looming MLB lockout. The Collective Bargaining Agreement runs out on Dec. 1 at 11:59 p.m. ET and at that point, the business of baseball is expected to halt, potentially for months.
