Connor Seabold was once part of a big trade for the Jays' division rivals.

As noted by MLBTradeRumors on Sunday, the Toronto Blue Jays have signed former Boston Red Sox right-handed pitcher Connor Seabold to a minor league deal. He'll get an invite to spring training.

Here's what you need to know:

About Seabold

Now 30 years old, Seabold was a third-round pick of the Philadelphia Phillies in the 2017 MLB Draft. He played his college baseball at Cal-State Fullerton.

Seabold was traded from the Phillies to the Boston Red Sox during the COVID 2020 season as part of the deal that sent Heath Hembree and Brandon Workman to Philly. Nick Pivetta also went to the Red Sox, and he ended up being a mainstay for Boston through 2024.

Seabold, on the other hand, struggled, going just 0-4 over two seasons with a 10.55 ERA. After Boston, he made 27 appearances for the 2023 Colorado Rockies, going 1-7 with a 7.52.

He resurfaced in 2025 with the Tampa Bay Rays and Atlanta Braves, going 0-0 with a 4.35 ERA.

Does he have a chance with the Blue Jays?

It doesn't really feel like it. On the starting rotation front, the Jays are set with Kevin Gausman, Dylan Cease, Trey Yesavage, Shane Bieber and Cody Ponce. In reserve, Eric Lauer and Jose Berrios are waiting.

As for the bullpen, the Jays seem to be set with at least seven of the eight spots. Jeff Hoffman, Yimi Garcia, Tyler Rogers, Louis Varland, Mason Fluharty, and then Lauer and Berrios all seem assured of spots. Seabold cracking into the final spot in the bullpen feels unlikely.

One thing to note

The Blue Jays are sending Yariel Rodriguez and Berrios to the World Baseball Classic, we believe, so there will be some extra innings available in spring training for fringe roster guys like Seabold. Even if he's unable to crack the Jays roster, perhaps he can impress someone else who wants to trade for him, or pick him up if he's let go. The WBC will give players like that all around a baseball to show off their skillsets.

Other news and notes

--MLB Pipeline released its first Top 100 prospect rankings of 2026 on Friday night. The Jays were given three prospects in the Top 100, which is the same number as Baseball America, which released its rankings on Wednesday.
