The Toronto Blue Jays suffered another difficult loss on Saturday night, falling 8-7 against the San Diego Padres at Petco Park.

With the loss, Toronto is now 45-50 and in fourth place in the American League East, falling behind the surging Boston Red Sox. The Padres, also disappointing, are 47-48 on the campaign.

Both starting pitchers struggled in this game, with the usually-reliable Trey Yesavage lasting just 1.2 innings.

He only allowed one hit, but he gave up four earned runs with seven walks. He did not factor in the decision, as the loss went to Mason Fluharty. Yesavage's ERA ballooned to 3.72.

On the other side, starting pitcher Walker Buehler also struggled, lasting just two innings. He gave up four earned runs on three hits, also issuing four walks.

According to @OptaSTATS on social media, this is the only game in the Modern Era where the two starting pitchers combined for 11 or more walks while getting 11 or fewer combined outs.

Despite the issues on Saturday, the 22-year-old Yesavage has still put up a solid first half of the season. He started the year on the injured list, but through 14 starts, he's gone 4-4 with that 3.72 ERA. He has 69 strikeouts in 75.0 innings and he should only continue to get stronger in the second half.

The Blue Jays will need him to if they have hopes of making another playoff run. They are just 1.5 games back of the free-falling Seattle Mariners in the wild card race.

The Jays will wrap up the first half of the season on Sunday when they take on the Padres again at 4:10 p.m. ET.

Right-hander Kevin Gausman will take the mound for Toronto while German Marquez pitches for San Diego.

Gausman is just 4-8 with a 4.32 ERA while Marquez is 4-2 with a 5.02.

The MLB Futures Game will take place at 12 p.m. ET on Sunday. Two Blue Jays' players (Nolan Perry and JoJo Parker) are set to play. The game will take place at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia as part of All-Star Week.

Sunday will also see the conclusion of the MLB Draft, which began on Saturday. The Blue Jays will make several selections from Rounds 5-20 as they look to infuse more talent into the farm system.
