The Milwaukee Brewers bolstered their bullpen by landing a Colorado Rockies veteran who's reliable starting games and closing them out.
In the Milwaukee Brewers' second move of the day, they were able to add reliever Antonio Senzatela from the Colorado Rockies.
The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal was the first to break the news as Milwaukee managed to add their second reliever of the day.
The first was JoJo Romero, but he's currently on the Injured List and isn't scheduled to be back until the middle of the month.
Milwaukee's bullpen has gotten much better today, as now Senzatela, 31, heads to American Family Field.
Brewers bullpen keeps improving
Some fans would've loved to see the team acquire a bat, but they've now added three pitchers in less than an hour, two of whom are relievers.
Senzatela is a right-handed pitcher out of Venezuela. He has three saves this season and will come to Milwaukee with a strong 3.61 ERA and 1.30 WHIP.
Overall, he's a 1.1 WAR player this season, and that number is the highest it's been since 2021. Senzatela is currently in the midst of his 10th year in the big leagues, and all 10 have come with the Colorado Rockies.
As a rookie, he sported a stellar 2.1 WAR. His career high came in 2020 at 2.8, though that was of course in a limited sample size. Either way, he's shifted from the starting rotation to the bullpen, so Milwaukee could always have him make a spot start or eat up the middle innings, should an opportunity present itself.
Senzatela should have a similar role as Chad Patrick
In total, Senzatela has appeared in 212 big-league games, and he's started 145 of those. He's 52-61 in his career with a 5.09 ERA, but he just got shifted back to the bullpen after he started 23 games a year ago.
While it's impossible to compare his pitching style to someone like Chad Patrick, that's the type of role Brewers fans should expect Senzatela to come in and have.
He's absolutely proven himself as a starter in the past, and there's always a possibility the Brewers have another injury or two pile up, and he's labeled as the next guy to earn those starts.
What did the Brewers have to give up?
According to MLB.com's Mark Feinsand, Milwaukee sent left-handed pitcher Mark Manfredi and shortstop Juan Martinez to Colorado.
Earlier in the day, they had to deal a pair of top-13 prospects, so this is a much better pill to swallow, as neither are top ranked prospects in the Brewers' league-leading farm system.
