Thomas Pannone is returning to the open market after making just one major-league appearance with the Milwaukee Brewers in 2026.
The Milwaukee Brewers will have another vacancy to address in their pitching depth after left-hander Thomas Pannone elected free agency, giving him an opportunity to explore his next destination ahead of the 2027 season.
Pannone made only one major-league appearance for Milwaukee during the 2026 campaign, but his return to the big leagues represented an important milestone after several years spent moving between organizations and playing overseas.
The 32-year-old received the ball for a start against the San Francisco Giants on July 29.
His opportunity with the Brewers did not last much longer. Milwaukee designated Pannone for assignment shortly afterward before he was outrighted, eventually leaving him to pursue another opportunity outside the organization.
Despite the limited major-league workload, Pannone's appearance marked another chapter in a career that has included several different stops.
Pannone has bounced between organizations
Pannone originally established himself in the majors with the Toronto Blue Jays, making his debut in 2018. He appeared in games for Toronto during the 2018 and 2019 seasons, accumulating 116 innings while recording a 5.43 ERA.
His opportunities became considerably less frequent afterward.
The southpaw made just one major-league appearance with Milwaukee in 2023 before receiving another opportunity with the organization this past season. Between those brief stints, he continued pursuing opportunities throughout professional baseball.
His career also encountered a significant setback in 2025, when flexor surgery prevented him from taking the mound for an entire season.
Veteran left-hander looks for another opportunity
Pannone returned to the field in 2026 and spent most of his campaign with Triple-A Nashville, attempting to rebuild his pitching career after the extended absence.
He made 99.2 innings of work at the minor-league level, finishing with a 4.70 ERA. Although those results did not immediately translate into a consistent major-league opportunity, his return provided another chance to demonstrate his availability following surgery.
His lone appearance with Milwaukee ultimately proved to be his only major-league action of the season.
Now entering free agency, Pannone will have the opportunity to explore organizations looking for additional left-handed pitching depth. His experience includes major-league starts, international competition and several seasons navigating the minor leagues.
At this stage of his career, securing another opportunity will likely depend on finding a team willing to give him a chance to compete for a roster spot.
For Milwaukee, Pannone's departure represents a relatively minor roster development, but it gives the veteran left-hander a fresh opportunity to continue his professional career elsewhere.
