Teoscar Hernández puts on one-man show with six RBIs as Los Angeles Dodgers roll over Milwaukee Brewers.
Saturday night wasn't all right for fighting as the Milwaukee Brewers were beaten and battered by Teoscar Hernández and the Los Angeles Dodgers at American Family Field.
Hernández, the Dodgers' left fielder, showed off his offensive prowess with six RBIs all by himself in an 11-3 win for Los Angeles.
The Brewers' offense just couldn't get things going as Dodgers starting pitcher Roki Sasaki and a very effective Dodgers' bullpen totally shut Milwaukee down.
With a three-run first inning, though, it looked like Milwaukee was going to light up Sasaki. But the Brewers didn't score another run on Saturday night, only able to record five total hits.
Los Angeles grabbed a 4-3 lead in the top of the fourth inning, then put together three- and four-run innings in the eighth and ninth, respetively.
Milwaukee starting pitcher Robert Gasser took the loss, his first decision this season. He worked 4 1/3 innings, giving up four hits and four earned runs. Gasser walked four Dodgers and struck out four Los Angeles batters, too. He now has a 6.48 ERA on the season.
What about Sasaki? He worked five innings of four-hit ball, giving up three runs (two earned), walked two, and struck out four. The Dodgers' relief corps of Alex Vesia, Kyle Hurt, Tanner Scott, and Jonathan Hernández were solid, which was bad news for the Brewers.
Brice Turang's double to left brought Jackson Chourio home for Milwaukee's first run. A Sasaki throwing error allowed Andrew Vaughn to reach base and Turang scored, putting the Brew Crew up 2-0.
Sal Frelick singled to center after the ball was deflected by Dodgers shortstop Mookie Betts. Christian Yelich scored, but Gary Sanchez was thrown out trying to go to third base on the hit. Sanchez made the third out of the inning at third base, considered a cardinal sin in baseball lore.
Still, the Brewers were up 3-0 after the first inning and the night looked promising.
Until it didn't.
Andy Pages' RBI double in the top of the fourth brought Freddie Freeman home, cutting into the Milwaukee lead at 3-1. With Pages and Kyle Tucker on base, Hernández slammed his seventh home run this season. It was a three-run blast for the Dodgers' outfielder and Los Angeles took control at 4-3.
Will Smith's RBI single, Hernández's RBI single, and Miguel Rojas' sacrifice bunt added three more runs on the board for the Dodgers. Los Angeles led 7-3 at that point.
The Dodgers padded their lead with four more runs in the ninth, centered around Hernández's two-run single, third baseman Santiago Espinal's RBI double, and a Shohei Ohtani RBI single to put the wrapper on a Dodgers win.
Milwaukee falls to 30-19 for the season, but the Brewers are still in first place in the National League Central Division. As for the Dodgers, they remain atop the National League West Division with a 32-20 mark.
These two teams will wrap up their weekend series at American Family Field on Sunday.
