The Milwaukee Brewers find themselves among top teams in latest ESPN MLB Power Rankings.
It's always a good feeling to find yourself as a baseball team among the tops in the MLB world. For the latest ESPN MLB Power Rankings, that's what is happening for the MIlwaukee Brewers.
As ESPN sizes up what's happening in the baseball world, their top experts have the Brewers slotted as the No. 6 team right now. That's a step up from the Brewers' previous No. 7 positioning just a week ago.
In talking about the Brewers and where they are right now, ESPN MLB reporter David Schoenfield started out with some kind words about Milwaukee starting pitcher Jacob Misiorowski.
"In his May 8 start against the Yankees, Jacob Misiorowski reached new velocity heights for a starting pitcher," Schoenfield wrote. "He threw 10 fastballs at 103 mph or higher, including three that clocked 103.6, the highest velocity recorded for a starter in the Statcast era."
For Brewers fans who watched Misiorowski dot the plate with that fiery fastball, that's one game they will not forget anytime soon. Misiorowski was dialed in pretty well, which had to make Brewers manager Pat Murphy had the rest of the Brew Crew feeling alright.
"More importantly, he won the game, allowing two hits in six scoreless innings, finishing with 11 strikeouts," Schoenfield continued. "In his next start on Wednesday against the Padres, The Miz fanned 10 in seven scoreless frames, his third straight scoreless start (unfortunately, Abner Uribe blew the game in the ninth)."
When baseball journalists and fans take a look at Misiorowski's MLB Percentile Rankings this season at Baseball Savant, they're going to see a lot of red. That's a fantastic thing because he's putting up statistics that are simply out of this world.
Baseball SavantIn Pitching Run Value, Fastball Run Value, and Breaking Run Value, he's solidly in the "Great" zone. Right now, Misiorowski's fastball velocity is at 99.6 mph. That's enough to get pulled over by a Wisconsin state trooper. Thankfully, though, Misiorowski is keeping his triple-digit mph pitches squarely on the mound.
"Misiorowski is averaging 14.1 K's per nine, which would break Gerrit Cole's record of 13.8 for a starting pitcher if he qualifies," Schoenfield wrote. "In other words, watch out Paul Skenes and Shohei Ohtani, you have company in the Cy Young race."
He uses a four-pitch selection, featuring, of course, his four-seam fastball. Other pitches include his slider, curveball, and changeup. Yet that fastball leaves hitters wondering what happened to them before stepping into the batter's box.
Milwaukee is sitting pretty record-wise on Saturday, May 16, 2026. The Brewers are 25-17 after beating the Minnesota Twins 3-2 on Friday night. The two teams continue their weekend series at Target Field in Minneapolis, Minn., on Saturday before wrapping it up on Sunday afternoon.
After finishing this series up, the Brewers hop aboard a flight and head to the Windy City. Milwaukee opens up a three-game series against the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field on Monday.
That ought to be some must-see TV for Brewers fans, too. After all, it's a rematch between the Cubs and Brewers after they battled it out last season in a National League Division Series.
