After an ugly loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers, the struggling lefty admits to tipping pitches from the mound as control issues and sign-stealing suspicions jeopardize his rotation spot.

The Milwaukee Brewers regular season winning streak against the Los Angeles Dodgers came to a screeching halt last night.

The Dodgers came out on top 11-3 in an ugly outing that saw the Brewers pitching staff issue 11 walks.

Not only that, but there was a ton of talk during the game as Brewers starting pitcher Robert Gasser was caught tipping his pitches. The Dodgers were able to take advantage at second base, relaying signs home to their hitters.

This isn't an issue of the Dodgers cheating r;ather, it's an issue Gasser knows he can't let happen again. He's already on a tight leash due to a few rough outings, but this pitching staff needs him due to the Brandon Woodruff injury and he simply hasn't been great.

Gasser Speaks After Rough Outing

The 26-year old said tipping pitches is "definitely something that has come up before” after he walked four in 4 1/3 innings. Sure, he's facing the back-to-back World Series champions, but this is a pattern now for Gasser as he falls to 0-1 on the year with a 6.48 ERA.

"I did look back once and saw [the runner on second] moving his hands,” Gasser added, according to an MLB.com article. “I haven’t looked in depth at it. I saw some of the photos, but it seemed like my hand was getting covered. Maybe they had something, maybe not,"

He continued, "I’m not pleased. This is a winning ballclub, and I came in and was part of two losses. It’s not ideal. I’ve got to minimize free passes and keep attacking the strike zone.”

Is the Robert Gasser Experiment Over?

At this point it's hard to say, but Gasser simply hasn't been the same since he underwent Tommy John surgery in mid-2024. He's only pitched in two games this season, but he also gave up a pair of runs in two of his four appearances last year. Remember, none of those 2025 appearances went more than three innings.

Keep in mind, Gasser threw 14 pitches against the Dodgers in the National League Championship Series on October 14, 2025. He struck out a pair, allowed a walk, and a hit in two-thirds innings.

At the end of the day, the Brewers have a really solid starting rotation. They know Quinn Priester is starting to be on his way back, and once Woodruff is 100% again, they can figure something else out for Gasser.

It's far too early to give up on the lefty, but he hasn't given the team much to be excited about through his first two starts, especially when a guy like Coleman Crow has been an all-around solid fifth option.
