Dominant pitching matchups and a surging offense take center stage as the Milwaukee Brewers look to take down the Colorado Rockies.
The Milwaukee Brewers had a tough stretch heading into the All-Star break, but after the week off, they were able to enjoy nine games in 10 days, all of which were at home.
Milwaukee already secured a sweep over the Miami Marlins and then won two of three against the New York Mets, including beating former Brewers' ace Freddy Peralta.
Now, the Colorado Rockies come to town to end this homestand. Currently 5-1, the Brewers have three more games to play at American Family Field as they continue to compete for the best record in all of baseball.
Friday, July 24
Tomoyuki Sugano (9-4, 4.76 ERA) vs. Shane Drohan (5-3, 3.20 ERA)
Arguably the best pitching matchup in this series will come in a rare Friday afternoon game for the Brewers. Tomoyuki Sugano, 36, has picked up the win in five of his last six starts. That said, he did allow seven earned runs to score in five innings of work back on June 26. After that, he missed some time, but returned on July 18 and allowed just three earned runs in 6.1 innings.
Shane Drohan is one of two left-handed starters the Brewers will be throwing at the Rockies. He is 2-1 in his last three games and came out of the All-Star break with a stellar nine-strikeout outing, one that saw him allow three earned runs on five hits in six innings.
Saturday, July 25
Ryan Feltner (3-4, 5.48 ERA) vs. Robert Gasser (2-4, 4.91 ERA)
Ryan Feltner is 0-2 in his last two starts. He's given up 12 earned runs in that span, one that's seen him cover just 6.2 innings. He only recorded five outs in his first appearance out of the All-Star break, and it was a disaster in every sense of the word.
Robert Gasser struck out five batters and didn't walk any in his first appearance of the second half. Other than allowing a solo homer, he was nearly perfect in five innings of work.
Sunday, July 26
Kyle Freeland (2-9, 7.28 ERA) vs. Jacob Misiorowski (10-4, 1.57 ERA)
Kyle Freeland is the lone lefty starter the Brewers are facing, but he's also the weakest of this Rockies trio, by far. The 33-year-old has just one win in his last 16 starts, and he's given up at least two earned runs in every start since Tuesday, April 7.
Jacob Misiorowski was an inning shy of picking up his 11th win. Manager Pat Murphy elected to pull him after four innings when his pitch count was at 65. Arm fatigue has been a real concern, so it'll be interesting to see how much longer of a leash he has in this one.
