Milwaukee needs a run-producing bat in middle of lineup before 2026 MLB season starts.

The Milwaukee Brewers reached the 2025 MLB postseason and can hold their heads high for that achievement, even though their run was short.

Now, heading into the 2026 MLB season, the Brewers need to address some pain points.

One of those is a need for a power hitter in the middle of their lineup. That didn't manifest itself last season, possibly hurting the team's chances in the postseason.

What will they do? There are some things overall that must be addressed. Milwaukee's three main free agents at this time are Rhys Hoskins, Jose Quintana, and Brandon Woodruff. Woodruff has received a qualifying offer from the team.

What else might be on the table for Milwaukee?

"Wins Above Replacement projections may not always capture what makes Milwaukee special, but also this is higher than two-thirds of the sport, so that’s still pretty good," according to an article from MLB.com.

"The big question is if they trade starter Freddy Peralta, much as they did with Corbin Burnes two years ago, though that would leave them with an extremely inexperienced rotation group, particularly if Woodruff chooses not to accept the qualifying offer."

Milwaukee must look at any deficiencies it has at the plate.

"Who that hitter might be is only part of the equation, because every single spot on the diamond is occupied by a returning player," according to the article. "There’s no hole to fill, only a contributor to displace. It will be interesting to see if that comes at shortstop, where Joey Ortiz was the rare Brewer hitter who took a big step back in 2025."

Milwaukee's front office will get started on the heavy lifting around their team on Monday. That's when the General Manager's meetings begin, a four-day opportunity for all MLB teams to get a jumpstart on tweaking their rosters.

In early December, the Winter Meetings will take place.

So, the Brewers have a lot of work to do. They should be studying every single opportunity out there to improve the roster from the bottom up.

Those power hitters out there on the market, or even ones that might be available via a trade, should become priority No. 1.

Let's see what Milwaukee can pull off in the coming weeks.
