Milwaukee Brewers second baseman Brice Turang will be playing for Team USA in the upcoming World Baseball Classic, but he's getting geared up for it all in Spring Training right now.
Turang has been working on his game in the offseason. On Wednesday, Turang stopped by for a chat with MLB Network about his work. Turang also talked about what Brewers manager Pat Murphy might want to see him work on as well.
"Yeah, just like offensively, just kind of stay behind the ball a little bit better," Turang said. "And just driving the ball back up the middle like I always have to work on. Defensively, you know, just working on everything that I usually do and being in the gym and getting stronger.
"And trying to get bigger," Turang said. "Still on that road and yeah, it's been great. It's been a good time for sure."
When MLB Network analyst Harold Reynolds asked if staying behind the ball was something Turang was focused on in his work, Turang offered this answer.
"I'm not looking to hit homers, I'm looking to drive the ball towards center field and that kind of comes with it when you catch some balls out front," Turang said. "But like I said, just been in the gym working out and trying to put a good swing on the ball to hit line drives up the middle."
Turang was asked if there'd been a type of assignment given to players from Murphy. In the interview, it's mentioned that a couple of seasons ago, Murphy gave his players an assignment to build a glove. He also was asked about who are some of the louder voices in the Brewers' clubhouse in camp right now.
"Not all of the guys are here yet in camp," Turang said. "We have a good group of guys that decided to get going. It's kind of, we've been working, doing our stuff and, you know, it's just kind of the same message from him. Being yourself, going out there to compete, winning every pitch, and just doing what you know how to do best."
Turang added that the players in camp are ready to roll and get the season underway.
For the Brewers, they need Turang to make consistent contact this season. He will need to turn all of his offseason and Spring Training work into solid dividends when Opening Day rolls around.
Murphy wants his ballclub to get back into the MLB postseason, that's a given. Turang also wants the same thing, too. It'll be on him and his teammates to make that a reality once the 2026 MLB season fully gets underway.
