Jacob Misiorowski, Christian Yelich, and others overcome with tears when talking about winning World Series.
When the Milwaukee Brewers reached the World Series way back in 1982, the fans at old County Stadium probably thought the franchise was about to go on a title run.
That didn't happen. In fact, it took 44 years for the Brewers' franchise to come back to the World Series. On Wednesday night in a Brewers-friendly Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Fla., the long journey back to the MLB mountaintop reached its zenith.
Jacob Misiorowski, who had to come out of Game 5 with cramps in his right calf, was simply awesome. Cooper Pratt continued his streak of being a big-time hitter, and Trevor Megill shut the door in the end on the Tampa Bay Rays.
Put all that together and you've got a 4-1 victory and a Commissioner's Trophy heading back with the team to Milwaukee.
Brewers celebrate at Tropicana Field
Once the final out was made, Brewers players poured out onto the field. Manager Pat Murphy, who kept the ship steering in the right direction, celebrated with his coaches. This season, Milwaukee made sure to let the baseball world know that they were serious about reaching the postseason.
All the ghosts from getting swept in the National League Championship Series in 2025 were squelched. The Brewers of 2026 kept their heads high and roared through it all with dignity and class.
Once the World Series championship hats and T-shirts were passed around, some players shared their thoughts with Fox's Tom Verducci and Ken Rosenthal on the field.
"Thank you, they've been nothing but supportive," Misiorowski said while getting emotional. "We've been talking this whole week and expecting this moment. It's amazing. I could not have done it without them."
Yelich remembered Uecker in comments
Christian Yelich told Rosenthal, "I don't even know how to describe it. Best feeling ever. Can't wait to get back there and celebrate. Just so proud of this group of guys. We're coming home, baby. Can't wait to celebrate. Almost a home game here for us."
When Rosenthal asked Yelich about late Brewers broadcaster and MLB player Bob Uecker, Yelich said, "He's smiling man. He's smiling. He's been with us a lot and we keep him close to our heart."
Pratt wasn't left out of the commentary, either. "This is one of the greatest moments of my life," he said. "Oh my gosh, it doesn't even feel real. It's surreal. Oh my gosh, I mean, we have the best fans. It's some of the hardest and most fun baseball I've ever played. I'm so blessed. I owe all I have to the heavenly Father."
Megill managed to grab a WWE replica championship belt before offering his comments.
"I mean, for the last two months or so, this was the last thing I could think of tonight," Megill said. "Everybody of the fans I want to say thank you, too. Ten-year-old me would be so proud. We failed last year. We'll be damned if we didn't come back this season."
