Infielder Luis Rengifo, who played for the Los Angeles Angels last season, signed a contract with the Milwaukee Brewers.

With some recent moves that the Milwaukee Brewers have made, there's a need to fortify their infield positions. Getting Luis Rengifo does that for the team as Spring Training is just getting started.

Rengifo, on Friday, signed a one-year contract with the Brewers, MLB.com reporter Mark Feinsand originally reported.

Don't be surprised if Rengifo is seen as the Opening Day starter at third base, either.

He's got experience in the majors as Rengifo played last season with the Los Angeles Angels. The Venezuela native, in fact, played all seven of his first major-league seasons with the Angels.

In 2025, Rengifo put together a slash line, according to his MLB.com profile, of .238/.287/.622. That was a decline from his career slash line of .250/.307/.689. Rengifo, last season, hit nine home runs, collected 43 RBIs, and stole 10 bases.

Looking at his 2024 season slash line, Rengifo was making solid contact at the plate that season. He finished with a slash line of .300/.347/.417. So, his 2025 numbers were down a bit, for sure.

If Rengifo can add some speed on the basepaths for the Brewers this season, then that's just another solid addition to the game plans for Brewers manager Pat Murphy. Reviewing his 2024 numbers, Rengifo also stole 24 bases, which were a career high for him. Murphy wouldn't mind seeing Rengifo run back his 2024 numbers this season, too.

What caused his slump last season? According to the MLB.com article, they included "a jump in strikeout rate (up to 19.2 percent, his highest since 2021) and a decline in power. After slugging above .400 in each year from 2022-24, Rengifo’s slugging percentage dropped to .335 last season, the fourth-lowest mark among all qualified hitters."

Another factor to consider for Rengifo is that he's only 29 years old, which gives him plenty of time to improve all facets of his game.

He played in more games last season than ever before. Rengifo could see more action this season if he does lay claim to the third-base job.

With Rengifo signing with the Brewers, it takes another infielder off of the free agent market. For him, it's also quite a jump from a team like the Angels, who has struggled to succeed in the American League, to Milwaukee.

Of course, the Brew Crew is coming off of a very successful 2025 season where they won a franchise-record 97 games in the regular season. Yet Milwaukee did come up short against the Los Angeles Dodgers in the National League Championship Series.
