The Milwaukee Brewers will try and get back on the winning side of the ledger in Cactus League play on Tuesday. The Brewers go up against the Cincinnati Reds and first pitch is scheduled for 4:05 p.m. ET.
Right now, Milwaukee has an 8-8 record in Cactus League play. Robert Gasser will get the start for the Brewers on Tuesday afternoon. Gasser has a 7.36 ERA with three strikeouts, three walks, and a 1.91 WHIP in Spring Training action. Andrew Abbott will get the start for Cincinnati.
Both Gasser and Abbott are listed as probable starting pitchers for both teams. But both probably will get the starting nods from their respective managers.
Through the rest of the work week, the Brewers will face the Cleveland Guardians, Athletics, and Colorado Rockies in Cactus League play.
At this point in Cactus League action, Brewers manager Pat Murphy probably is making decisions on who sticks with the MLB club for now. Some players have been sent down to the Brewers' minor-league camp.
The Brewers have a lot of hope that teenage phenom Jesús Made makes a ton of improvement in the minor leagues this season.
Made was among a number of players that Milwaukee sent down to its minor-league camp on Monday. Despite his impressive showing during Cactus League play, the Brewers know that he needs more time to mature.
Murphy talked with Made on Monday morning, along with other players the ballclub sent down. From Murphy's perspective, Made did some solid work in camp.
“He’s going to be a terrific player,” Murphy told Brewers beat reporter Adam McCalvy of MLB.com. “He’s a specimen. He’s mature for his age as a person. He fits into the future, for sure.”
Made is ranked as the organization's top prospect, according to MLB Pipeline, which follows the tracks of all minor-leaguers throughout their careers.
After learning about his assignment to the minor-league camp, Made, through an interpreter, offered his thoughts on being with the MLB club.
“Really just learning about everything,” Made said. “Learning about the system, learning about the way things are, learning about how practices are in the big leagues. Little nuggets that I am able to take over to the Minor League side."
For now, Brewers fans can keep track of Made's journey. It looks like he'll start this season in Double-A Biloxi, Mississippi, for Milwaukee.
