With Gary Sánchez, Luis Rengifo signings, the Milwaukee Brewers receive good marks for deals.

While the Milwaukee Brewers are getting ready for the season at Spring Training in Arizona, they made a couple of additions in February. They are getting pretty decent grades for their signings, too.

When MLB reporter Kerry Miller of Bleacher Report reviewed some of the latest MLB free-agent signings, he gave the Brewers' signing of catcher Gary Sánchez a B+ and infielder Luis Rengifo earned a B.

On Sánchez's signing, Miller wrote, "With this one move, the Brewers more than doubled their offseason-to-date spending on free agents.

"Signing Sánchez was a bit of a necessary move, though, in case it becomes clear over the next six weeks that Jeferson Quero isn't ready to serve as No. 2 behind William Contreras on the Brewers depth chart," Miller wrote. "Sánchez filled the backup DH/C role admirably for the Brewers in 2024."

As for Rengifo, Miller wrote, "Once again, with this one move, the Brewers more than doubled what they had spent up until that point.

"And once again, it was a bit necessary, as their third-base situation was looking mighty suspect after trading Caleb Durbin to the (Boston) Red Sox," Miller wrote. "If Rengifo can bounce back from a rough 2025 to resume producing like he did from 2022-24, he may well be their primary starter at the hot corner."

Sánchez played his first seven MLB seasons with the New York Yankees, then spent one season with the Minnesota Twins. He split time between the New York Mets and San Diego Padres in 2023. Sánchez played with the Brewers in 2024 and was with the Baltimore Orioles last season.

Rengifo has played all seven previous MLB seasons with the Los Angeles Angels.

Brewers manager Pat Murphy will be able to insert Sánchez and Rengifo in the lineup throughout the season. It gives him some depth at the catching position. Add into the fact that Sánchez is a veteran as well, then it makes things a lot better going into Opening Day.

For Milwaukee, the goal this season is to not only improve (if that's possible) on last season's 97-win regular-season total. It's to get back to the National League Championship Series and, of course, reach the World Series.

The Brewers need to have these two free-agent signees really play well this season. If Sánchez can provide some additional offense when he's playing, then Murphy will be a lot happier in the dugout.

Let's see how both Sánchez and Rengifo work through things at Spring Training in Arizona.
