Milwaukee Brewers left fielder Akil Baddoo was the star on offense for his team on Sunday, but it wasn't enough as the Brewers lost a Cactus League game.
The Kansas City Royals managed to pull off a 3-1 win over the Brewers.
Baddoo went 1-for-3 in the game, notching an RBI single to right which allowed Luis Rengifo to score. That put Milwaukee up 1-0 at that point, but the Brewers' offense was just kept in check from there on out.
Chad Patrick got the start for Milwaukee, going two innings and giving up two hits, one run (earned), walking two, and striking out two Royals hitters. Grant Anderson picked up the loss in relief for the Brewers.
The Royals scored single runs in the second, fourth, and fifth innings while the Brewers' offense was just non-existent on this day.
With the loss, the Brewers fall to 4-6 in Cactus League play, while the Royals are now 5-4.
Baddoo played his previous five MLB seasons with the Detroit Tigers before joining the Brewers this season. He has a career slash line of .224/.369/.674 with 28 career home runs and 104 career RBIs.
He only played in seven MLB games for the Tigers last season. But Baddoo has played 100-plus games in 2021 and 2023, respectively. He was drafted by the Minnesota Twins back in the 2016 MLB amateur draft.
While Sunday's result might not make Brewers manager Pat Murphy smile, the fact that he was able to see some of his players get playing time matters at this point.
The Brewers are getting geared up for Opening Day. Now that it's March, Opening Day is just that much closer to happening.
What will the Brewers look to do in these final weeks leading up to the start of the 2026 MLB season? Probably want to get everyone on the same page. Such as, pitchers getting their arms loose and mechanics straightened out. For hitters, it could be getting additional whacks in a batting cage.
There are a number of things still on Murphy's to-do list at this point. But he's probably made it clear to every one of his players that they need to buckle down at this point.
Let's see if the Brew Crew can add a few more wins during Cactus League play. There's still time to get all of the kinks worked out before the regular season starts up in earnest.
