Stranded runners and silenced bats haunted the Milwaukee Brewers at the 2026 Little League Classic.
William Contreras's ninth-inning blast nearly gave the Milwaukee Brewers a thrilling walk-off victory at the 2026 Little League Classic, but instead, they fell to the Atlanta Braves, 4-2.
Milwaukee dropped the ball, so to speak, as missed opportunities at the plate continue to haunt them.
This team has been much better as of late with runners in scoring position, but the same simply can't be said about their one-off game in Williamsport, Pennsylvania.
The Braves jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the second, but Milwaukee answered with a run in the third. Atlanta took a 2-1 lead in the fourth, and later led 3-1 in the top of the sixth inning.
Luis Lara came off the bench to replace Garrett Mitchell, whom manager Pat Murphy took out of the game as a precautionary measure. The rookie made the most of his moment with an RBI triple that scored Christian Yelich, cutting the deficit to 3-2.
Sadly, Milwaukee allowed another run to score in the ninth, and 4-2 would end up being the final as they left a few more runners stranded in the ninth inning.
Brewers couldn't come up with the clutch hits they needed
This is simply one of those games where things just didn't go the Brewers' way, and that's going to happen from time to time.
After taking the first two games against Atlanta, both in Milwaukee, these teams made a day trip to Journey Bank Ballpark at Historic Bowman Field to put on a show for nearly 2,500 future big league hopefuls.
Each team racked up 11 hits in this one, but the biggest difference maker was the fact that the Braves were 4-for-13 with runners in scoring position while the Brewers were just 2-for-12.
The aforementioned Lara provided one of those hits, as did this team's biggest offensive asset, Jake Bauers, but not even his 75th RBI of the year could guide the Brewers to their 82nd victory.
Milwaukee ended up leaving 11 runners on base in this one, and while their pitching staff wasn't perfect, they certainly did enough to keep the Brewers in the game.
Regardless, this team now sits at 81-50 and still has the best record in all of baseball.
In terms of the National League Central, the Brewers have a comfortable six-game lead, but it's never too early to close the book on the division, as anything can happen in these next five weeks.
