After battling arm fatigue, the Milwaukee Brewers' flame-throwing ace prepares to rejoin the rotation as soon as this weekend.
While the Milwaukee Brewers have yet to announce their starters for an upcoming series against the New York Mets, MLB Network's Jon Morosi provided a huge Jacob Misiorowski update.
After being pulled from his final first half start and not pitching in the All-Star Game, Misiorowski was left out of the team's first three games in the second half due to arm fatigue.
Now, Morosi reports "Jacob Misiorowski is likely to return to the starting rotation during the July 20-22 series vs. the Mets."
Logan Henderson, Shane Drohan, and Robert Gasser drew assignments for a three-game slate against the Miami Marlins, but it's clear Miz slots into the Brewers plans when the Mets come to town.
Misiorowski's next start will be sooner rather than later
Thankfully, Brewers fans can breathe again as they now know that Misiorowski is indeed good to go, at least according to Morisi and his sources.
The Brewers haven't made any official announcement, but seeing Miz pitch against the Mets makes perfect sense. Knowing this Brewers team has lost the likes of Brandon Woodruff, Quinn Priester, and now Kyle Harrison, there are only so many options they have at their disposal.
Milwaukee is awaiting the debut of Lance McCullers Jr. along with Colton Gordon, but it remains to be seen exactly where those two will slot into this organization.
In the meantime, the Brewers are set to enjoy a nine-game homestand to kick off the second half of the season, one that could see Misiorowski make an appearance anytime from July 20-22. Should he have to miss another series, that's when fans have every right to be concerned.
Misiorowski has already thrown 111 innings
If the 24-year-old wants to win the Cy Young Award, he can't exactly be missing a ton of scheduled starts, but at the same time, the Brewers know they need to take the cautious approach with Misiorowski.
This kid is throwing 100-plus mph consistently, and the last thing they can afford is to have another starting pitcher go down due to injury.
Not only is Priester out for the year, but Woodruff may be as well. That's exactly why this team traded for McCullers and Gordon, but they're still monitoring the status of Misiorowski and Harrison.
Trading for another starter would be smart, but this team has plenty of guys who can eat innings, it's just a matter of how they'll fare should the Brewers make a run in October.
