With a big-time road win on Wednesday, the Milwaukee Brewers have taken a commanding 3-0 lead in the National League Championship Series over the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Brewers are on the verge of making history

On Thursday, the Brewers have a chance to complete a sweep of the defending champions and, if they do, advance to the World Series for the first time since 1982.

With the series win, Milwaukee will also look to capture the franchise’s first World Series.

If no other night proved the Brewers are finally ready to make history, Wednesday night’s win shows how ready Milwaukee is for that moment.

Timely home runs come in handy for the Brewers

While statistically the Brewers were one of the worst home-run-hitting teams in the league, the long-ball fever came to the team at the worst time.

As Milwaukee hit three homers in the win on Wednesday, including a leadoff home run from Jackson Chourio and back-to-back home runs from Jake Bauers and Garrett Mitchell.

Clutch hitting is essential in the postseason, and while this team already does a great job getting base hits, knocking some out of the park completely demoralized the champs.

Especially the homers in the seventh inning, preferably Bauers' lengthy at-bat against Blake Snell.

Milwaukee is already difficult to beat, but if they continue their home-run momentum, they'll undoubtedly become champions with flying colors.

Brewers showed they can win big games on the road

Defeating the San Diego Padres on the road to clinch the National League Division Series was certainly impressive.

However, the Brewers’ Wednesday victory confirmed that the team can win a high-stakes game at any ballpark.

If Milwaukee lost to the Padres in Game 4, they would’ve faced the risky choice of heading to a decisive Game 5, so any team would likely play with desperation to end the series early.

Furthermore, few teams would’ve been able to dig deep like the Brewers did to beat the Dodgers on Wednesday.

Typically, the mindset for teams is to take on the road, and although they may still happen, most teams focus on stealing the second game of the road portion. Why? Because it’s difficult to get a team down 3-0 in the postseason, especially a two-time reigning back-to-back champion.

Milwaukee is coming with a different approach than most teams, snatching away the Dodgers' chances of tying the series in front of the home crowd.

Now the Brewers have a grand opportunity to sweep the defending champions on the road Thursday as the Dodgers did to them in last season's NLCS.
