The multi-time Platinum Glove-winner has been tied to trade rumors for over a year now

The St. Louis Cardinals are in the middle of a well-documented organizational rebuild that has seen the the organization depart with several established veterans.

In 2025 alone, the Cardinals traded away closer Ryan Helsley, starting pitcher Sonny Gray and first baseman/catcher Willson Contreras.

St. Louis has been rumored to remained engaged in trade conversations with more veterans, including third baseman Nolan Arenado, second baseman Brendan Donovan and reliever JoJo Romero.

When it comes to Arenado, it has seemed a matter of "when" rather than "if" the multi-time Platinum-Glover will be dealt.

The Cardinals have been reported to be attempting to trade Arenado dating back to last offseason. St. Louis reportedly had a trade in place with the Houston Astros last year that Arenado nixed due to having a no-trade clause.

Despite being clear with the intention of dealing Arenado, there has been little rumored movement when it comes to a deal.

In a recent episode of the "Cardinal Territory" podcast, former Cardinals pitcher Kyle Gibson discussed Arenado's status.

"Which camp would you rather be in?" Gibson said on the podcast. "Would you rather be in (Alex Bregman's) camp or Arenado's camp right now? ... Who's waiting on who here? Is Bregman waiting on Arenado to get traded so maybe he has leverage or is Arenado waiting on Bregman to be signed so he has leverage? I don't know. That side of it is a little interesting to me. So, we'll see how it shakes out. I think it's always interesting talking out loud that you want to trade a player and making it known that he is going to be traded. I feel like there is a sort of leverage aspect of that that is diminished a little bit. At the end of the day, (Chaim Bloom) and the front office has the ability to say 'Nolan, we're keeping you here. You make our team better and we need you in this locker room and we'll see. If we get another offer, obviously we'll present it to you. But for right now, you're our guy and you're gonna be here.' ... I think any team, Nolan is an asset for many different ways."

Arenado slashed .237/.289/.377 with a .666 OPS in 107 games this past season. He hit 18 doubles, a triple and 12 home runs with 52 RBIs. He was on the injured list from Aug. 1-Sept. 15 due to a right shoulder strain.

Arenado's offensive numbers have slowly decreased over the last several seasons. That and the money owed to him ($31 million over the next two seasons) has given some teams pause.

However, Arenado is still a plus glove at third base and he can still be a valuable veteran in a clubhouse looking for experience.
