Morosi expressed his belief that the Cardinals will have several more transactions before the end of 2025.

The St. Louis Cardinals went through MLB winter meetings this week without making a significant trade.

The Cardinals were expected to be one of the most active teams during winter meetings due to their ongoing rebuild under president of baseball operations Chaim Bloom.

Despite not making a swap, St. Louis was one of the most active teams in trade discussions. MLB insider Jon Morosi believes that there are more moves in store for Bloom and the Cardinals before 2025 ends.

"They were very, very active. ... I can comment on the fact they were having a lot of trade conversations (at the end of winter meetings)," Morosi said on an appearance on MLB Network. "I do believe that by the end of the calendar year, at least one, maybe trades involving the St. Louis Cardinals (will happen). They've already moved Sonny Gray. Nolan Arenado, I would say, is almost certain to be moved. It just seems like it's time. ... The Willson Contreras one caught be a bit by surprise based on the amount of interest in him. ... Willson Contreras played better-than-expected defense at first base. There are teams that like him as a first baseman. ... Any team that was out there pursuing (Pete Alonso), certainly Contreras is a potential alternative at that position. ... Brendan Donovan ... a lot of teams love that left-handed bat, the defensive versatility. It's a profile that teams have fallen in love with, whether it's the Seattle Mariners, even a team like the Toronto Blue Jays, the Houston Astros ... Brendan Donovan, I do believe, will be having a different uniform by the time of spring training."

A potential deal involving Contreras has picked up steam over the last several days, with former St. Louis players mentioning the New York Mets as a potential fit. The Mets have a need at first base after multi-time All-Star, Pete Alonso, signed with the Baltimore Orioles during winter meetings.

Donovan has also been a player that has been one of the most popular names in the rumor mill since the offseason began. The Seattle Mariners have had reported interest in him from several sources and have had a need at first base since Jorge Polanco hit free agency.

So far this year, the Cardinals have moved on from closer Ryan Helsley and Sonny Gray. Based on other moved made by the organization, this offseason could be the most formulaic in Bloom's rebuild.
