Albert Pujols went viral taking some swings in the batting cage with an interesting bet for his team

It's been almost four years since 11-time All-Star and three-time MVP Albert Pujols suited up for the St. Louis Cardinals. But, it looks like the former slugger could still play a game if he wanted to.

On Monday, video was shared on social media displaying Pujols getting swings in the batting cage. The 22-season veteran, who's currently the manager for the Dominican Republic in the World Baseball Classic, reportedly had a bet going with the team that if he couldn't hit a home run, he would pay for that night's dinner.

The clip sparked hypothetical conversations about whether or not Pujols could still play in major league baseball today. And it's not an unreasonable thought process.

The last time Pujols played a major league game was in 2022 with the Cardinals. He was 42-years-old.

That season, which was the last St. Louis made the playoffs and finished first in the National League Central, Pujols slashed .270/.345/.550 with an .895 OPS in 109 games and hit 14 doubles and 24 home runs with 68 RBIs. It was the most homers he had hit in a single season since 2016 and his most RBIs since 2017.

Pujols' major league career spanned more than two decades from 2001-2022. He played with St. Louis from '01-11, '22. In between those two stints, he also played with the Los Angeles Angels from '11-21 and the Los Angeles Dodgers in '21.

In addition to his 11 All-Star selections (10 of which came with the Cardinals) and his three MVPs (all also with St. Louis), Pujols won two World Series with the Cardinals ('06, '11) and was named the National League Championship Series MVP in '04.

In addition to Pujols' Hall of Fame resume, he also won the National League Rookie of the Year in '01, won the Gold Glove twice ('06, '10), the Silver Slugger six times ('01, '03, '04, '08-10), the Hank Aaron Award twice ('03, '09) was named NL Comeback Player of the Year ('22), led the NL in home runs twice ('09-10) and led the NL in RBIs once ('10).

In addition to the aforementioned accomplishments, Pujols was also a competitor for the Dominican republic team that finished fourth in the inaugural World Baseball Classic in 2006.

The hypothetical of whether or not Pujols can still play in today's game will likely still stay a hypothetical. But, now as a manager, Pujols is attempting to leave no question as to who the best team in the World Baseball Classic is.

The Dominican Republic will face Venezuela in the Pool D championship at 8 p.m. ET on Wednesday. The winner of that game will face Korea in the quarterfinal round of the WBC on March 13. The loser of the Pool D championship will play Japan in the quarterfinal March 14.
