    The fourth-year second baseman was recognized as one of the 30 nominees for the annual philanthropic honor

    The 2025 MLB regular season is set to end soon, and there's growing speculation on who the winners of the respective annual awards will be.

    And the nominees were revealed for the most prestigious award in the sport. 

    The 30 nominees from major league clubs for the Roberto Clemente Award were released Monday. The award is named after the late National Baseball Hall of Famer known for his tenure for the Pittsburgh Pirates.

    The award is given every year to the player who "best represents the game of baseball through extraordinary character, community involvement, philanthropy and positive contributions, both on and off the field," according to the award description on MLB.com.

    In addition to his Hall of Fame acumen on the field, Clemente was known for his philanthropic efforts off the field. He set up a sports center for underserved youth in his native Puerto Rico, which has gone on to serve as a training ground for several future major leaguers since.

    For the St. Louis Cardinals, the player chosen to represent the club in the nominations was fourth-year infielder Brendan Donovan.

    According to his bio page listing his various philanthropic efforts, Donovan is a frequent participant in, Cardinals Care the team's community outreach program. He also supports Big League Impact, which is organized by teammates Adam Wainwright and Kyle Gibson, which provides food, water, shelter and essentials to communities in need. 

    Donovan also has made multiple donations through the Veterans Community Project, which helps provide transitional housing and support services to veterans. Fans can vote for Donovan, and other nominees, to receive the award at this link.

    St. Louis has had six players win the Roberto Clemente award in the past: Ozzie Smith, Albert Pujols, Yadier Molina, Wainwright, Lou Brock and Carlos Beltran.
