Eduardo Rodriguez stifled the Houston Astros' bats while Nolan Arenado’s decisive two-run blast propelled the Arizona Diamondbacks to a critical road win.

The Arizona Diamondbacks quickly fell behind the Houston Astros, but by the third inning they took a 3-1 lead and never looked back.

Yordan Alvarez hit his 38th home run of the year off Eduardo Rodriguez, but that would be the only run he allowed in six innings of work.

Rodriguez struck out six batters in a game that saw the Astros strike out 12 times and draw only two walks.

While the D-backs were 0-for-4 with runners in scoring position, Nolan Arenado's two-run, two-out blast in the third inning was the difference maker in this one.

Arizona officially takes the series with a 3-2 victory, improves to 76-68 on the year, and now seems to be rolling as they have won three of their last four.

Rodriguez threw another gem

The early homer could've phased him, but Rodriguez locked right back in and picked up his 15th win of the season.

Now 15-5, Rodriguez is proving that starting pitching can indeed guide the D-backs to the playoffs.

Even in a game like this where the offense only scored three runs, the D-backs bullpen pulled their weight and while they allowed one run in the eighth inning, that ended up being the only late damage done.

Arizona outhit Houston 9-7 in this game, and it's worth noting three of the Astros hits came against Jonathan Loaisiga, who really struggled in this one.

Loaisiga may have picked up his ninth hold of the year, but he allowed three hits while trying to record three outs.

He made it through his inning with only the one run coming across, and then Kevin Ginkel slammed the door shut in the ninth for his third save of the year.

Arenado's home run changed the game

Alvarez put the Astros ahead 1-0 just six pitches into the game, but then the D-backs were able to tie it up due to a double, sacrifice bunt, and sacrifice fly to start the top of the second.

Once the top of the third came around, things got crazy.

Geraldo Perdomo singled to start the inning, but then he was drilled with a line drive from his teammate, Ketel Marte.

Gabriel Moreno would pop out to record the second out of the inning, only for Arenado to win a five pitch battle and crush a 94 mph four-seam fastball 385-feet to left center.

Perdomo's status is definitely something to monitor as he didn't return, but Arenado changed the entire game with his swing and made sure the Astros left this series with a home record under .500 (37-38).
