Arizona Diamondbacks' Eduardo Rodriguez puts his dominant season on the line against a resurgent Houston Astros' Peter Lambert.

The Arizona Diamondbacks and Houston Astros are set for a winner-take-all series finale that highlights two of these teams' best starting pitchers.

Eduardo Rodriguez has exceeded all expectations with the D-backs this season. It's safe to say no one expected him to be 14-5 at this point in the season with a top-seven ERA in all of baseball.

The 33-year-old lefty knows the D-backs have once again secured that third and final National League Wild Card spot, but there's still plenty of time for the San Diego Padres to once again leapfrog them.

In the series finale, the Astros will be sending out Peter Lambert, a 29-year-old who is 8-7 with a 3.66 ERA.

Lambert, who's currently in his first season with the Astros, is a 2.8 WAR pitcher, which really puts things into perspective as the fifth-year big leaguer previously never saw that number above 0.5.

Can the D-backs win two in a row?

Coming off a wild extra-innings victory, Arizona would love nothing more than to secure a big time series victory against a potential American League division winner.

The Astros currently have a three-game cushion in the AL West, but that'll only last so long if they can't get back on track.

Houston has won seven of their last 10, but yesterday's 4-3 loss snapped a three-game winning streak, so it'll be interesting to see if Lambert can go out there and record his first win since Saturday, July 11.

Rodriguez is a 5.0 WAR player

He may be coming off a rare loss, but Rodriguez ended August with four consecutive wins.

The D-backs' unexpected ace is currently fifth in all of baseball with his 14 wins, and his 2.59 ERA is another number that is in the conversation for one of the best in the league.

The Venezuelan native hasn't gone fewer than five innings since Sunday, June 19, and he's looking to keep that trend going against the Astros.

Now that Arizona knows they're capable of beating Houston, this is a huge series finale that could set the tone for the rest of the season.

Arizona's schedule the rest of the way features a few series that, on paper, they should be able to handle with relative ease.

Playing to their full potential is a big part of that, and that includes Rodriguez, who hasn't lost back-to-back starts at all this season.
