After a clean MRI, Corbin Carroll is set to be back in the Arizona Diamondbacks lineup just in time for a critical Wild Card push.
Thankfully for the Arizona Diamondbacks, it seems like Corbin Carroll will be back in the lineup tonight.
Here on Friday, Sept. 11, Carroll is set to return, according to 98.7 FM Phoenix's John Gambadoro.
Gambadoro confirmed that there was "nothing concerning" regarding Carroll's MRI, and he's set to be in the lineup for their series opener against the Texas Rangers.
Carroll, 26, was officially listed as day-to-day as he was dealing with some back issues. Clearly, it's nothing severe and will just be about pain management moving forward as the D-backs make a late push for the final National League Wild Card spot.
Carroll is hitting just .136 in September
Things haven't been going great for Carroll this month as he's just 3-for-22 at the plate, though two of those three hits are doubles.
The lefty has a pair of runs in September, though he's struck out eight times and hasn't drawn a single walk.
His .136/.136/.227 slash line simply isn't going to cut it, though it's worth noting he hasn't been in the lineup since Monday, Sept. 7.
Now that he's had three full days off, it'll be interesting to see if Carroll looks any different in his return.
This is a Diamondbacks team that recently had to deal with an unexpected absence of Ketel Marte. While Marte is back in the fold, the last thing they wanted to do was lose someone like Carroll with just a few games left in the regular season.
Moving forward, every game is more important than the last. Carroll's presence makes this team better, no doubt about it, and they need him at 100% to give themselves the best chances of passing the San Diego Padres for that final Wild Card spot.
Carroll sports a 4.9 WAR this season
While he's had a few months where his batting average was less than .200, Carroll still brings a ton to the table.
The fifth-year big leaguer has 19 home runs and 61 RBIs this season with 21 stolen bases. His .800 OPS is slightly down from his .825 career average, though there's still quite a bit of time left for him to get those numbers back up before the end of the regular season.
Should the D-backs reach the playoffs for the first time since 2023, it's important to remember that Carroll slashed .273/.364/.409 that postseason with a double, triple, two home runs, 10 RBIs, and five stolen bases with a .773 OPS.
