Los Angeles Dodgers scored two runs in third, fourth, and seventh innings as Arizona Diamondbacks tried to come back but couldn't get the job done.
While the Arizona Diamondbacks were looking to get a second win in a row against the Los Angeles Dodgers on Tuesday night at Chase Field in Downtown Phoenix, that didn't happen.
As a result, the Dodgers scored two runs in the second, third, and seventh innings en route to a 6-5 win over the Diamondbacks. Michael Soroka took the loss for Arizona, falling to 7-3 this season. He worked six innings, gave up six hits, four earned runs, walked one, and struck out six.
Freddie Freeman hit his ninth home run this season, a two-run shot in the first inning. Shohei Ohtani, who was on base at the time, scored in front of Freeman and Los Angeles was up 2-0.
Ohtani Triple Ups Dodgers' Lead
In the top of the second, with Dalton Rushing and Alex Freeland on base, Ohtani smacked his second triple to right field. Rushing and Freeland scored, putting the Dodgers up now 4-0.
The Diamondbacks' Corbin Carroll slammed his eighth home run this season over the left-field wall, getting Arizona closer at 4-1. Ketel Marte hit a sacrifice fly in the top of the fifth inning, driving home Jorge Barrosa as the Diamondbacks edged a bit more to Los Angeles at 4-2.
Andy Pages' sacrifice fly to left field with two outs allowed Rushing to score from third base and the Dodgers moved further ahead at 5-2 in the top of the seventh inning.
Mookie Betts later singled to left field in the inning, allowing Ohtani to score as Los Angeles was now up 6-2. Freeman also moved up to second base, but didn't cross the plate.
Arenado Double Helps Diamondbacks Rally
Nolan Arenado's 12th double in the bottom of seventh brought home Marte and Gabriel Moreno, cutting further into the Dodgers' lead at 6-4. Dodgers catcher Rushing challenged a call at the plate, but the call was confirmed as a ball. Pavin Smith walked and got an RBI as Arenado scored to make it to 6-5.
Dodgers reliever Blake Treinen worked to one hitter in the bottom of the fifth inning, getting an out. By the time that the game ended, Treinen earned the victory and goes to 2-1 this season. Tanner Scott worked the ninth inning and picked up his sixth save.
Los Angeles was 3-for-8 with runners in scoring position and left seven runners on base. The Diamondbacks were worse, going 2-for-12 with runners in scoring position. Arizona left 12 runners on base, which means they had plenty of opportunities to go ahead of the Dodgers.
But they just could not get the big hits, which might make Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo a bit frustrated.
This four-game series is now tied at 1-1 with two more games left for Wednesday and Thursday nights.
