MacKenzie Gore throws stellar game for Texas Rangers, shuts down Arizona Diamondbacks' offense 7-4.

Maybe the Arizona Diamondbacks thought going into Globe Life Field and taking on the Texas Rangers would be a walk in the park.

Well, MacKenzie Gore was on his "A" game and threw eight innings of solid ball as the Rangers defeated the Diamondbacks 7-4 at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas.

The Rangers' offense hasn't always been working on all cylinders at times this season. On Tuesday night, though, that was not the case. Hitters were lining up and dominating Diamondbacks pitching.

Zac Gallen just didn't have it on Tuesday night, falling to 1-4 this season with the loss against the Rangers. Gallen went 4 2/3 innings, giving up seven hits, seven earned runs, walking two, and striking out four. But Gallen also gave up two home runs in his outing.

What is Gallen's ERA after Tuesday night's defeat? That would be 5.65 if Diamondbacks fans are keeping track at home.

Diamondbacks relievers Ryan Thompson and Brandon Pfaadt kept the Rangers' offense off the board in their work after Gallen was taken out. Pfaadt worked three innings of shutout ball, giving up just two hits while striking out five.

Gore goes to 3-3 with the win after going eight innings, giving up three hits and just one earned run. Gore walked one and struck out five. Reliever Gavin Collyer didn't retire a batter in his work in the ninth inning, but Jacob Latz came on to pick up his fifth save this season.

Texas' Joc Pederson homered in the first inning, putting the Rangers up 1-0. In the top of the second, Ildemaro Vargas rocked Gore with his seventh homer this season, a solo shot that tied things up at 1-1. But Jake Burger's RBI single in the bottom of the second gave the Rangers a 2-1 advantage.

Ezequiel Duran smashed a solo home run in the bottom of the fourth inning, putting the Rangers up 3-1.

Then, the Rangers broke the game wide open with a four-run fifth, driving Gallen out of the game.

But Arizona did put up a three-spot in the top of the ninth inning. Yet the Diamondbacks couldn't come all the way back.

With the loss, the Diamondbacks fall to 20-21 and sit in third place in the National League West Division. The Rangers are now 20-22, also sitting in third place in the American League West Division. Texas is among the top teams in that division right now, which is one of the weakest in MLB at this time.

The Diamondbacks close out their series against the Rangers on Wednesday afternoon. After a day off on Thursday, Arizona will start a three-game series against the Colorado Rockies at Coors Field in Denver, Colo.
