After heavy rains and thunderstorms delayed Sunday's scheduled start time between the Arizona Diamondbacks and Colorado Rockies at Coors Field in Denver, Colo., the Diamondbacks rained on the Rockies' parade.

Corbin Carroll and Lourdes Gurriel Jr. slammed home runs in leading Arizona to an 8-6 win over the Rockies. 

Michael Soroka worked 5 2/3 innings en route to the victory, raising his season record to 6-2. Soroka gave up six hits, two earned runs, walked two, and struck out eight. Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo used six pitchers on Sunday afternoon.

Rockies starter Michael Lorenzen, who took the loss and is now 2-6 this season, worked 4 2/3 innings. Lorenzen gave up nine hits, seven runs (six earned), walked three, and struck out five. But Lorenzen gave up two home runs in his outing.

Diamondbacks catcher Gabriel Moreno went 3-for-4 and scored two runs, while Carroll and Geraldo Perdomo were both 2-for-4. Gurriel went 2-for-5 with two RBIs, and Carroll totaled three RBIs.

The victory gives the Diamondbacks a 22-23 overall record, putting them in third place in the National League West Division. As for the Rockies, they fall to 18-29 and sit in last place in the National League West right now.

Arizona scored two runs in the top of the third inning on Nolan Arenado's RBI single, followed by a Gurriel RBI single. The Diamondbacks added runs in the top of the fourth inning on Ildemaro Vargas' RBI single and Carroll's two-run homer, which brought Vargas in to score, too. It was Carroll's sixth home run this season.

With the Diamondbacks up 5-0, the Rockies struck back in their half of the fourth. Troy Johnson's RBI double brought home TJ Rumfield, cutting into Arizona's lead at 5-1. Willi Castro's ground-rule double brought Johnson in to score and the D-backs were up 5-2 at this point.

Gurriel's first homer this season in the top of the fifth inning stretched the Diamondbacks' lead to 6-2. Jose Fernandez's RBI infield single brought home Moreno and Arizona now led 7-2.

Carroll connected for his seventh home run this season, a solo shot, and the D-backs upped their run total to 8-2. 

Diamondbacks reliever Brandon Pfaadt just didn't have it on Sunday. In one-third of an inning, Pfaadt gave up two hits, four earned runs, walked one, and didn't strike out a batter. By the time Lovullo pulled him from the game, the Rockies moved ever closer to Arizona at 8-6.

Taylor Clarke came on for Pfaadt and stopped the onslaught, picking up his ninth hold this season. Paul Sewald worked the ninth inning and earned his 10th save this season for the Diamondbacks.

Arizona was 4-for-11 with runners in scoring position on Sunday and left eight total runners on base. As for Colorado, the Rockies were 4-for-7 with runners in scoring position and left eight runners on base, too.

After Sunday's game, the D-backs headed home where they will start a three-game series against the San Francisco Giants on Monday night at Chase Field in Downtown Phoenix. The teams also will play a night game on Tuesday before wrapping up their series with a Wednesday afternoon matinee.

The Rockies will come calling on the Diamondbacks at Chase Field once the Giants' series concludes.
