Ildemaro Vargas, in the midst of a 23-game hitting streak, picked up National League Player of the Week recognition.

Ildemaro Vargas came out of the gates after Spring Training on a heater, and he's not slowed down one bit for the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Vargas, who is in the midst of a 23-game hitting streak dating back to last season, won the National League Player of the Week honors on Monday. Vargas has hit safely in all 20 Diamondbacks games this season.

But last week, Vargas put up some highlight-reel numbers that got the attention of the baseball world.

Check out these numbers, courtesy of MLB.com.

In five games last week, Vargas was 8-for-22 at the plate. He slammed four home runs, a double, and a triple. Vargas also amassed 12 RBIs and even scored seven runs.

But Vargas is no rookie. He's been around the MLB world for 10 seasons, yet Vargas hasn't always been in the spotlight.

Want some more numbers? Vargas is hitting .367, which leads the National League. He has a .722 slugging percentage.

On Monday, Vargas and his Diamondbacks teammates enjoyed a day off. They just  wrapped up a two-game series in Mexico City, Mexico, against the San Diego Padres

But the D-backs are back in action on Tuesday night, when they start a three-game series against the Milwaukee Brewers at American Family Field in Milwaukee.

Looking at the National League West

Even though it's still relatively early in the 2026 MLB season, it's not too early to look at how the National League West Division is shaping up right now.

As expected, the Los Angeles Dodgers are sitting pretty in first place. Entering play on Monday night, the Dodgers were 19-9 overall. They are a half-game ahead of the Padres, who are 18-9 after that Sunday loss to the Diamondbacks.

Speaking of the Diamondbacks, they are in third place with a 15-12 record, 3 1/2 games behind the Dodgers. The San Francisco Giants and Colorado Rockies, who both have sub-.500 records right now, are in fourth and fifth place, respectively.

Another quick Dodgers note: It might seem like they have the best record in all of baseball. Well, that's not the case. Entering Monday's action, the Atlanta Braves have that honor with a 20-9 mark.

Injury Update

Let's take a look at some players who are out of action right now for the D-backs.

Shortstop Geraldo Perdomo and pitcher Zac Gallen suffered injuries during Arizona's series opener against the Padres on Saturday.

Perdomo suffered a left ankle sprain. He's listed as day-to-day right now. Perdomo sprained his ankle while attempting to make a play. But Perdomo appears to be available off the bench should Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo need him.

Gallen took a comebacker off of his right shoulder and left the game on Saturday after three innings. He suffered a right shoulder contusion and is currently listed as day-to-day. Gallen will have treatment on his shoulder and plans to resume his throwing program.
