After dominating Double-A with a .961 OPS, infield phenom Demetrio Crisantes moves just one step away from the majors following a 2026 breakout.
As of Tuesday, July 21, the Arizona Diamondbacks officially announced that their No. 3 prospect, Demetrio Crisantes, is heading to Triple-A Reno.
Crisantes, 21, has been seeing the ball extremely well at Double-A. His numbers are off the chart, and it's worth noting that he can play a number of positions in the infield.
The 6-foot Arizona native was the D-Backs No. 198 overall pick back in 2022.
With a slash line of .319/.413/.548 at the Double-A level this season, it comes as no surprise that the Diamondbacks were willing to call him up.
Crisantes heads to Reno
Of the 35 games he appeared in at Double-A, 32 of those were at second base. Crisantes was asked to be the designated hitter three times, but other than that he's played exclusively at second base here in 2026.
Last year, Crisantes played 10 games at third base. Going back to 2024, he made 11 starts at first base. Overall, he's only been the DH for three games while he's played 11 at first, 29 at third, and 112 at second base.
In 955.2 innings at second, Crisantes has a .975 fielding percentage. He didn't commit a single error in his short sample size at first, and he committed only two during his time at third.
Crisantes has a career .320 batting average, which is a sight to behold. His career OPS is .901, a number that was .961 during his extended time at Double-A this season.
Five of Crisantes' 19 home runs came at Double-A this season. In total, he's hit seven homers this season. When it comes to RBIs, 30 of his 133 career runs driven in have come in 2026.
Not only does he show great upside in terms of his power, but Crisantes is a base-stealing threat. The hometown kid has stolen 38 career bases in the minors, but it's worth noting he hasn't swiped a bag yet this season.
Crisantes could be coming for Ketel Marte's spot
Ketel Marte is under contract through at least 2031, but he has a player option in 2032. Knowing he's making $116.5 million in a six-year span, there's no reason to believe the 32-year-old is going anywhere anytime soon.
That said, Crisantes certainly gives the Diamondbacks something to think about. It's not like he's going to make it up to the majors this season, but he could always be a September call-up if everything goes according to plan in Reno.
