Arizona Diamondbacks prospect JD Dix delivered another impressive week at the plate for the Hillsboro Hops.
Top prospect JD Dix is continuing to build momentum at the plate for the Arizona Diamondbacks, putting together another productive stretch for the Hillsboro Hops and earning recognition among Minor League Baseball's top performers for the week.
Dix, ranked No. 8 among Arizona's prospects, was selected to MLB Pipeline's Prospect Team of the Week after an impressive five-game stretch from Aug. 17-23. The second baseman consistently reached base while providing extra-base production, giving the Diamondbacks another encouraging sign in the development of one of their young infielders.
The 2024 first-round pick went 8-for-19 during the week, producing a .421 batting average while also reaching base at a .522 clip. He added a home run, a triple and two doubles, driving in five runs and scoring five more. Dix also drew four walks and stole two bases.
The performance showed the combination of skills that has made Dix an intriguing prospect for Arizona. While his offensive profile has traditionally been centered around his ability to make consistent contact and reach base, his recent production has included more power than expected.
That development has become increasingly noticeable as Dix has gained more experience at the High-A level.
Dix has been especially productive during August, putting together one of his strongest stretches of the season. He entered the week already riding a productive month at the plate, and his latest performance pushed his August OPS to an impressive level.
Extra-base hits have been an important part of that surge. Rather than relying exclusively on singles, Dix has increasingly found ways to turn his contact ability into more impactful offensive production. That added power gives the Diamondbacks another dimension to monitor as he continues progressing through the organization.
The switch-hitter has also shown a notable difference depending on which side of the plate he bats from.
Dix has been more productive as a left-handed hitter this season, posting a .255 average with a .371 on-base percentage and a .440 slugging percentage from that side. His production while batting right-handed has been more modest, with a .240 average, .309 on-base percentage and .360 slugging percentage.
That split is something Arizona will continue to monitor as Dix advances, but his overall development remains encouraging.
The week was not Dix's first appearance on the Prospect Team of the Week this season, either. He previously received the honor after a strong finish to May, providing another indication that he has been capable of putting together productive stretches throughout his first full professional seasons.
Dix was selected 35th overall by the Diamondbacks in the 2024 MLB Draft and has steadily worked his way through Arizona's farm system. His ability to play second base while contributing offensively makes him an important player to watch as the organization evaluates its future infield options.
At this stage of his development, the most encouraging aspect may be the way his offensive game continues to expand. Dix already possesses a reputation for his hit tool, but the emergence of more extra-base production could raise his overall ceiling.
If that trend continues, Dix could become an increasingly important part of Arizona's prospect pipeline as he moves closer to the upper levels of the Minor Leagues.
