Del Castillo's go-ahead RBI single helped Arizona Diamondbacks edge Philadelphia Phillies 4-3, secure series victory.

The Arizona Diamondbacks headed into a weekend series against the Philadelphia Phillies looking to make a statement.

Consider it done as the Diamondbacks, thanks to Adrian Del Castillo's go-ahead RBI single, defeated the Phillies 4-3 at Citizens Bank Park on Sunday. That gave the Diamondbacks a series win over Philadelphia.

Diamondbacks starting pitcher Zac Gallen was pretty solid over five innings of work. Gallen gave up eight hits, three runs (all earned), walked one, and struck out two. After Gallen left, Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo called on five Diamondbacks relievers to keep the team in the contest.

Eventually, Taylor Clarke, who worked one inning of relief, picked up the victory. Paul Sewald came on in the ninth inning to get his fifth save.

Phillies starter Zach Pop only worked two innings before Andrew Painter came out of the bullpen to work five innings. Reliver Jose Alvarado, though, took the loss for Philadelphia.

James McCann put the Diamondbacks up 1-0 in the second inning with an RBI double that brought Nolan Arenado home. Then, with one out in the top of the sixth inning, Jose Fernandez singled to load the bases. Arizona got a run out of that situation, moving up 2-0 over the Phillies.

Then, in the bottom of the sixth inning, Philadelphia's Trae Turner hit a two-run homer that went through an umpire's challenge. Ultimately, Turner's homer was allowed and Justin Crawford scored ahead of Turner. That tied things up at 2-2.

Bryce Harper followed with an RBI double to give Philadelphia a 3-2 lead.

Fernandez came through again in the top of the eighth with an RBI single that tied things up again at 3-3. With one out, Del Castillo connected for his RBI single that brought Fernandez home to give the Diamondbacks a 4-3 advantage.

Sewald worked a clean ninth inning, getting two strikeouts while he was on the mound.

The Diamondbacks are now 9-7 on the season and sit in third place in the National League West Division.

Arizona now continues their sort-of East Coast road trip with a three-game series against the Baltimore Orioles starting on Monday.
