Arizona Diamondbacks' No. 3 prospect Demetrio Crisantes is continuing his impressive 2026 campaign.
The Arizona Diamondbacks have aggressively promoted several of their top prospects to the major leagues this season, and the organization's latest wave of talent continues to climb the ladder.
Infielder Demetrio Crisantes, the club's No. 3 prospect, has earned a promotion to Triple-A Reno after an outstanding stint with Double-A Amarillo.
The 21-year-old wasted little time making an impact, collecting three hits and two RBIs in Reno's 10-7 victory over Tacoma on Wednesday, just his second game at the Triple-A level.
The performance marked his 13th multi-hit game of the season and further showcased why he is considered one of Arizona's top young hitters.
A breakout season at the plate
Crisantes appeared in only 35 games for the Sod Poodles before receiving the call to Triple-A, but he made every opportunity count.
He hit .319 average during his time in the Texas League while producing a .961 OPS and displaying a balanced offensive profile. Nearly half of his hits went for extra bases, highlighting the increased impact in his bat despite maintaining the contact-oriented approach that has defined his professional career.
Rather than chasing home runs in Amarillo's hitter-friendly environment, Crisantes stayed committed to driving line drives across the field. That disciplined approach has helped him post a career .321 batting average in the minor leagues and has translated immediately following his latest promotion.
Overcoming injury setbacks
The breakout season comes after a challenging stretch that threatened to slow his development.
Crisantes suffered a posterior labral tear in his left shoulder last season, ending his 2025 campaign prematurely. Although he returned healthy for Spring Training, a hamstring injury delayed the start of his 2026 season until mid-May.
During his rehabilitation, the young infielder focused on refining the mental side of his game by studying opposing pitchers, tracking pitches during workouts, and preparing for situations he would eventually face upon returning to the field.
Fast track through the farm system
Arizona has primarily used Crisantes at second base throughout the 2026 season after he previously split time around the infield. While All-Star Ketel Marte currently occupies that position in the majors, Crisantes continues to strengthen his long-term case with consistent offensive production.
His promotion also places him among a small group of 21-year-old players competing at the Triple-A level this season, an indication of how highly the organization views his development.
Having already succeeded at every stop in the Diamondbacks' farm system, Crisantes now faces his biggest challenge yet against experienced Triple-A pitching. If his early success continues, the promising infielder could soon position himself as another homegrown prospect knocking on the door of the major-leagues.
