Riding a blistering on-base streak, the Arizona Diamondbacks' standout catcher nears a franchise milestone as he chases his teammate’s record.

There's a world where Arizona Diamondbacks catcher Brandon Moreno could surpass outfielder Corbin Carroll's historic on-base streak.

Back in 2024, Carroll reached base safely in 44 straight starts. After a tremendous 2-for-4 night for Gabriel Moreno, the 26-year-old is now four games shy of matching Carroll's mark.

Carroll's on-base streak of 44 games came during his third year in the big leagues. Officially, this is Moreno's fourth year with the D-Backs, but his fifth year in the majors.

Currently riding a five-game hitting streak with eight hits in those five games, it's not hard to see why Moreno is one of the most slept-on players in all of baseball. His slash line sits at .312/.394/.451, and he sports a career-high .845 OPS. Moreno is a 3.5 WAR player, and he just so happened to be the hero in their most recent game against the Washington Nationals.

Moreno drives in game-winning run with Carroll on base

Moreno ended up scoring Ketel Marte in the seventh inning, which led to a 3-2 Diamondbacks victory. Carroll was in on the party as both he and Marte hit singles to start a huge inning for Arizona.

After watching Tom Cosgrove throw a first-pitch slider, Moreno was waiting for that exact same pitch, and it just so happened to be the very next one that Cosgrove threw.

"I know he throws good sliders,” Moreno said, according to MLB.com. “He threw me a first-pitch slider, and then I was expecting something close to me. He threw it and I hit the fly ball bringing in the run.”

He continued, "Sometimes, especially in my position, you have a lot on your mind. I’ve been working on that. Staying level no matter what situation it is. … I know moments go up and down. I have to stay the same and do my job.”

Second longest on-base streak in club history

A two-hit night on Friday, July 24, pushed Moreno past Jay Bell on the all-time list. Bell had reached base safely in 39 consecutive starts, a mark that stood the test of time from 1998 up until Carroll broke it two seasons ago.

Now, Carroll is the only player standing in Moreno's way. It's crazy that they're currently teammates, but it only adds more fuel to the fire.

With a Wild Card spot within reach, the Diamondbacks just need to keep their foot on the pedal. This is a team that's beaten three different opponents in three straight days, and has won four straight and six of their last seven coming out of the All-Star break.
