After learning that the Arizona Diamondbacks' game against the St. Louis Cardinals on Thursday night was rained out, D-backs reliever Paul Sewald wasn't happy.
It's not Festivus yet at all, but Paul Sewald definitely had some grievances to air on Thursday night.
Sewald, who is the ace reliever for the Arizona Diamondbacks, was not happy at all that the St. Louis Cardinals postponed Thursday night's game against the St. Louis Cardinals was postponed at Busch Stadium.
He headed out to X and posted some rather pointed comments aimed at the Cardinals' management.
"No you’re right thank you @Cardinals, for not moving our game up to this afternoon when we politely asked given the whole world knew it was going to rain tonight," Sewald began his post. "I actually was really hoping we could lose an off day and turn it into a 4 city road trip".
The Diamondbacks will now continue their road trip by opening up a three-game series against the Tampa Bay Rays. Zac Gallen, who was scheduled to start on Thursday night, will instead start the first game on Friday night.
After finishing up in Florida, the Diamondbacks will then head cross-country to the West Coast for a series against the San Francisco Giants.
Honestly, Sewald has plenty of reasons to complain. If the Cardinals did know that rain was going to be hitting the St. Louis area before first pitch, then the club did have time to call off the game at that point.
Maybe the Diamondbacks could have gotten out of St. Louis earlier and arrived in Tampa Bay at a bit earlier time, too. It would have given players, coaching staff, and manager Torey Lovullo to have more downtime before playing again on Friday night.
As it stands now, the team is scheduled to arrive in Tampa Bay at its scheduled time.
Looking at the National League West Division standings, Arizona is 41-39 overall this season. The Diamondbacks are currently two games back in the race for an NL Wild Card spot.
In other Diamondbacks-related news, outfielder Max Kepler was reinstated after spending the first 80 games of the 2026 MLB season on the restricted list. It was determined by MLB that Kepler had used a banned performance-enhancing drug, which went against the MLB rules.
Also, pitcher Mitch Bratt, who started Wednesday night's game against the Cardinals, was sent back down to Triple-A Reno. That was Bratt's MLB debut, but there were things that Lovullo liked seeing from the young pitcher. Don't be surprised if he's back up with the big-league club at some point this season.
Pitcher Ryne Nelson, who has been dealing with a strained right elbow, was moved to the 60-day Injured List. This will give him more time to heal and rehab his elbow.
The Diamondbacks will have to put Thursday night's rainout behind them and get ready to face a Rays club coming off a win on Thursday afternoon.
One wonders if Sewald will face any type of reprimand from MLB for his comments.
He shouldn't at all.
