Eduardo Rodriguez worked six innings, Diamondbacks scored big late as they defeated New York Mets 7-1.

On a night where the Arizona Diamondbacks didn't have Corbin Carroll available, starting pitcher Eduardo Rodriguez and his teammates did enough to stop the New York Mets 7-1 at Citi Field.

It was another chilly night in New York and a number of Diamondbacks and Mets players tried to bundle up in the elements.

While Rodriguez gave up a first-inning home run to the Mets' Luis Robert Jr., the Diamondbacks' left-hander got better as the game progressed. He worked six innings, only giving up that one earned run. Rodriguez struck out three and walked two.

The Diamondbacks' offense didn't catch fire until the seventh and eighth inning, when they put up four and three runs, respectively. With one out in the top of the seventh, Jose Fernandez singled to center and Geraldo Perdomo moved to second base.

Gabriel Moreno followed with a sacrifice fly, bringing Perdomo home with the tying run. Alek Thomas then reached base on a fielder's choice. Fernandez scored and Moreno moved to third, putting the Diamondbacks up 2-1.

Then, with two outs, Jorge Barrosa smoked a triple to right field. Thomas scored on the hit and Arizona increased its lead to 4-1.

Moreno was 2-for-2 with two doubles, two RBIs, and a run scored for the Diamondbacks on Thursday night.

Mets starter Nolan McLean really had Diamondbacks hitters fooled a lot. McLean used his sweeper and four-seam fastball to collect eight strikeouts. But the Diamondbacks got to him in the seventh inning, forcing Mets manager Carlos Mendoza to take him out of the game.

McLean worked 6 1/3 innings, giving up just three hits and two earned runs. Mets relievers Luke Weaver and Luis García followed McLean, but the Arizona bats came alive against both pitchers. Weaver worked two-thirds of an inning, giving up three hits and two runs (both earned).

García came on with two outs in the seventh and gave up three hits, three runs (all earned), walked one, and didn't record a strikeout.

The Diamondbacks went 3-for-10 with runners in scoring position, while the Mets went 0-for-5 in those situations and left seven runners on base.

With the win, Arizona goes to 7-6 on the season while New York falls to 7-6.

Carroll, who played his 500th MLB game on Wednesday, was kept out of the Diamondbacks' lineup with tightness in his left hip flexor. Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo said before the game, though, that he wasn't too worried about Carroll's health at that point.

"Standing out there in the cold, he had two doubles and a triple, he's running around like a madman, and it just got tight," Lovullo said, according to MLB.com. "So instead of throwing him back out there and asking his body to do something that might cause some more damage, we decided to get him off of his feet."

After Thursday's game, the Diamondbacks headed toward Philadelphia. They'll open a three-game weekend series at Citizens Bank Park against the Philadelphia Phillies on Friday.
